Anderson County, South Carolina · Jail + Court Record Guide
Anderson County Booking, Inmate and Criminal Court Record Lookup
An Anderson County arrest can create several separate records: a Sheriff or police incident report, a Detention Center booking, a bond entry, a Magistrate or General Sessions court case and, in some situations, a South Carolina criminal-history record. No single search answers every question.
This guide shows how to locate current or recent Anderson County detainees, verify the correct person, connect jail charges to the court case, request arrest or incident reports, check bond and court information, use the jail’s visitor and mail rules, and determine when a statewide SLED criminal-history search is actually needed.

An Arrest Record Is Not a Conviction Record
Presumption of innocence matters.
A booking record shows that a person was arrested or detained and lists allegations or holds entered during the jail process. Charges can later be amended, dismissed, transferred, declined, resolved by plea or end in an acquittal. Use the criminal court record to determine what actually happened after the arrest.
Booking ≠ guilt
A jail entry documents custody. It does not by itself establish that a person committed the offense.
Name match ≠ identity match
Compare multiple identifiers before associating an arrest with a person who has a common or similar name.
Court disposition is the key follow-up
Search the case docket for filed charges, hearings, orders, plea, dismissal, judgment and sentence information.
2026 court-privacy change: The South Carolina Judicial Branch states that beginning January 1, 2026, home-address information is no longer displayed in the public case index for new or existing cases. A missing residential address therefore does not mean the court record is incomplete.

Three Anderson County Record Systems Serve Different Purposes
Sheriff / Detention Center
- Current and recent detainees
- Booking information
- Custody status
- Listed charges and holds
- Bond-related booking information
- Jail visitation and inmate services
Arresting Agency / ACSO Records
- Incident reports
- Arrest reports

Official Sheriff booking lookup
How to Search Anderson County Jail Bookings
The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office links to a Zuercher Portal for current and recent Anderson County Detention Center detainees. Use the jail search for custody and booking information, then verify the case through the court system.
Start with the legal last name.
Use fewer fields first. An incorrect middle name, suffix, nickname or spelling variation can hide the correct booking.
Add the first name only when necessary.
If several people share a surname, narrow the list carefully rather than assuming the first similar result is correct.
Open every plausible result.
Compare available identifying and booking details instead of relying on a name or photograph alone.
Separate different booking events.
A person may have more than one recent detention, warrant service or case. Treat each booking date separately.
Review every listed charge.
One booking may contain several charges or outside holds with different bond or court information.
Save the identifiers.
Copy the detainee ID, booking number, charge descriptions, arrest date, bond information and any court case number displayed.
Search the court case next.
Jail data is not the final case outcome. Use the South Carolina Case Records Search to find the prosecution and disposition.
Official jail-search phone fallback: The Sheriff specifically directs people who want to know whether someone has been arrested or is in jail to call the Detention Center at
864-260-4363 rather than calling 911.
Anderson County Booking Result Decoder
A booking result can contain several identifiers. Record them exactly because they make later court and records requests much easier.
Booked name
Compare the legal name, middle information and suffix with another reliable identifier.
Detainee or booking ID
Use this identifier for jail questions, mail, money and communication services when requested.
Booking date
Distinguishes one custody event from an older or later arrest involving the same person.
Charge description
Describes the allegation entered during booking; the prosecutor or court may later change it.
Bond information
Review each charge separately because conditions or bond status can differ by count.
Court reference
Copy the case number or court name when shown and use it to locate the official docket.
Six identifiers to match before describing an arrest
Full name
Include suffix when shown.
Date of birth / age
Use when publicly available.
Booking date
Match the event.
Detainee ID
Verify jail identity.
Charge / agency
Confirm the event.
Court case
Verify final outcome.
Same-name warning: Do not identify someone from a common name or booking photograph alone. Cross-check multiple identifiers and the matching criminal court case before drawing conclusions.
What happens after an arrest
Anderson County Booking-to-Court Workflow
Arrest / surrender
A law-enforcement agency takes the person into custody.
Intake
Identity, charges and detention information are entered.
Booking
A jail record and detainee identifier are created.
Bond review
A judge determines release conditions where applicable.
Court case
Charges proceed in the appropriate Summary, General Sessions or municipal court.
Disposition / release
Custody and court paths can end at different times.
Booking can appear before the court case
A recent arrest may be visible in the detention system before all court entries have been indexed.
Court charges can differ
Prosecutors can amend, replace or decline allegations originally entered during booking.
Release is not the case outcome
Leaving jail on bond or other release does not mean the criminal case is over.
Detention scale: The Anderson County Sheriff’s Detention Division reports an average daily inmate population of approximately 400 and roughly 4,500 new arrests per year. A recently booked person may therefore require careful identity and date matching.

Sheriff public-record request workflow
How to Request an Anderson County Arrest or Incident Report
The jail booking tells you that custody occurred. The underlying incident or arrest report generally provides the event narrative, report number, officer information and releasable investigative details. Request the report from the agency that created it.
Identify the arresting agency.
Confirm whether the arrest was made by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, Anderson Police Department, another municipality, Highway Patrol or another agency.
Collect the identifiers first.
Prepare the full legal name, arrest or incident date, approximate location, booking number, case number and report number when known.
Describe the specific records wanted.
Ask for the releasable incident report, arrest report and only the specific supplements, photographs, audio or video you actually need.
Request electronic delivery when practical.
Electronic records may avoid per-page copy charges, although staff search, retrieval and redaction time can still apply.
Ask for a cost estimate.
A focused request with a narrow date range and defined documents reduces unnecessary staff research and possible fees.
Expect protected material to be removed.
Victim information, juvenile information, active-investigation details or other legally protected material may be redacted or withheld.
ACSO published FOIA response framework

Granted newer-record request
The record is generally to be made available no later than 30 calendar days from the response date.
Granted older-record request

How to Search Anderson County Criminal Court Records
Anderson County is in South Carolina’s 10th Judicial Circuit and is county number 04 in the Judicial Branch case system. Court records are the strongest public source for determining what charges were formally filed and how a case progressed.
Booking record
Shows the custody event, listed allegations and jail identifiers. It is the starting point, not the final disposition.
Summary / Magistrate
Handles many misdemeanor, traffic, warrant, bond and preliminary criminal matters within statutory jurisdiction.
General Sessions
Anderson County Clerk of Court maintains the Circuit Court criminal record for General Sessions cases.
Select Anderson County.
Anderson is Judicial Circuit 10 and county number 04.
Use the exact case number when available.
A case-number search is safer than a broad name search when multiple defendants have similar names.
When searching by name, start broad.
Enter the surname and first name carefully, then compare case number, filing date, court type and charge information.
Read the docket chronologically.
Look for warrants, charging documents, bond entries, hearings, continuances, motions, plea entries, judgments and disposition events.
Compare each charge separately.
One arrest can generate several counts, and each count may have a different outcome.
Contact the Clerk when official confirmation is required.
The public index is useful for research but should not replace a certified court record when formal proof is required.
Public-index limitation: The South Carolina Judicial Branch warns that online case information can be delayed or incomplete and should not be treated as the official record of court action. Contact the Clerk when accuracy is critical.

Anderson County Bond Court
2404 North Main Street
Anderson, SC 29621
Published bonding hours
The Anderson County Magistrate directory currently lists daily bonding times at 6:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Confirm before attending because schedules can change.
Find the exact detainee first.
Save the detainee ID, booking date and every listed charge.
Review each charge separately.
One case can have different bond conditions, and another warrant or hold can affect release.
Check the court record.
A court order is more useful than assuming that an amount displayed in the jail portal tells the complete release story.
Confirm the accepted bond procedure.
Contact Bond Court or the appropriate Clerk before sending money or hiring a bondsman based only on a third-party website.
Save every receipt and bond document.
Record the defendant, case number, amount, payment date and person or company receiving the payment.
Wait for physical release confirmation.
Bond authorization does not mean the person has already completed processing and left the Detention Center.
Bond scam warning: Do not send cryptocurrency, gift cards or money to an individual claiming that an immediate private payment is required to release someone. Verify the detainee and bond independently through the Sheriff, jail or court.
How to Check Anderson County Warrant Information Safely
Do not confront or attempt to detain anyone.
The Sheriff’s Most Wanted page contains selected wanted individuals, not every outstanding Anderson County warrant. A court or law-enforcement database can also change after service, recall or another court order.
Check the court case
Review the criminal docket for warrant, failure-to-appear or bond-related entries.
Contact the Warrant Division
The Sheriff directory lists the Warrant Division at
864-260-4412.
Use Most Wanted only as a supplemental tool
The
ACSO Most Wanted page highlights selected suspects and should not be treated as a complete warrant index.
Checking your own possible warrant: Consider obtaining case-specific instructions from the court or a lawyer before appearing at an unfamiliar location. Warrant status can involve same-name issues, recalls or other case-specific facts.

Detention Center visitor readiness
Anderson County Detention Center Visitation Rules
The Sheriff publishes visitation rules and a current schedule on the Detention Center visitor-information page. Verify the current schedule before traveling because detainee housing and facility operations can change.
One visit per week
The Sheriff states that a detainee is allowed one visit each week.
30-minute time slot
Arriving after the assigned time has been used can result in the visit being denied.
Approved visitor list
During intake, a detainee can list up to 10 people. The published rules state that the list can only be changed every 90 days.
Photo identification
Adult visitors must present an accepted photo ID.
Security screening
Visitors are subject to a pat-down search. Refusing the search ends visitation for that day.
Leave restricted items outside
The Sheriff prohibits purses, bags, weapons, chemical sprays, cell phones and cameras inside the visitation area.
Before leaving home
- Confirm the detainee is still in custody
- Confirm the current visitation schedule
- Verify you are on the visitation list
- Bring approved photo identification
- Arrive before the assigned time slot
- Wear conservative, facility-approved clothing
- Leave prohibited personal items outside
- Call 864-260-4363 if the rules are unclear

Statewide South Carolina criminal-history search
When to Use SLED CATCH Instead of the Anderson County Jail Search
The Anderson County inmate search is best for local current or recent custody. SLED CATCH is different: it provides a name-based South Carolina criminal-history search supported by criminal-history information submitted to SLED.
Use SLED CATCH for
A South Carolina criminal-history report that may cover qualifying records beyond Anderson County.
Do not use it as a warrant search
SLED states that wanted-person information is not included in a CATCH report.
Name-based limitation
A name-based search can produce false positives or false negatives, especially when aliases or differing identity data are involved.
South Carolina only
CATCH is not a general national criminal-history database.
| SLED CATCH item |
Current guidance |
| Base report fee |
SLED lists a non-refundable $25 fee for a standard South Carolina criminal-record check. |
| Online service fee |
SLED posted a new applicable online service fee effective July 1, 2026. Review the checkout total before purchase. |
| Search method |
Name-based search using identifying information entered by the requester. |
| Wanted persons |
Not included in CATCH. |
| Sex-offender registry |
SLED maintains a separate public sex-offender registry. |
| Mail request |
SLED also accepts qualifying criminal-history requests by mail under its posted instructions. |
Identity warning: SLED itself states that fingerprint-based identification is more reliable than a name-only search. Do not treat a possible name match as proof that the record belongs to a specific person.
Record correction and relief
How Anderson County Arrest-Record Expungement Usually Starts
Removing or restricting eligible arrest information is not handled by the Anderson County jail search itself. The correct route depends on the court, charge and disposition.
General Sessions matter
Contact the Tenth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office to determine whether the charge and disposition may qualify for expungement.
Dismissed Magistrate or Municipal matter
SLED instructs people to contact the court that handled the dismissed charge when the matter was in Magistrate or Municipal Court.
SLED record still appears after an order
SLED says it does not initiate expungement and needs a qualifying court order before removing a charge from criminal-history information.
Find the final court disposition first.
Do not start from the jail charge alone.
Confirm the court that handled the case.
Determine whether the matter was in Magistrate, Municipal or General Sessions Court.
Contact the correct expungement authority.
General Sessions eligibility usually begins with the Solicitor; dismissed lower-court matters may require the handling court.
Keep the signed order.
Save the final Order for Destruction of Arrest Records or other relief document.
Allow systems time to update.
SLED states that it may take approximately four weeks after receipt of a valid expungement order to remove the charge.
Recheck only when appropriate.
A later SLED criminal-record check can help verify whether the state record has updated.

10 title-specific questions
Anderson County SC Arrest Records Search FAQs
1. How do I search Anderson County SC arrest records online?
Start with the Anderson County Sheriff’s inmate portal for current and recent detainees. Search the booked person carefully, save the booking and detainee identifiers, then use the South Carolina Judicial Branch Case Records Search to determine what charges were filed and how the court case progressed.
2. Is the Anderson County jail inmate search the same as a criminal-history check?
No. The jail search focuses on Anderson County Detention Center custody and booking information. SLED CATCH is a separate name-based South Carolina criminal-history service. A court case search is also separate and is used to determine prosecution and disposition information.
3. How can I tell whether an Anderson County arrest resulted in a conviction?
Do not rely on the booking charge alone. Search the Anderson County criminal court case through the South Carolina Judicial Branch and review the docket for filed charges, dismissal, plea, judgment, acquittal, sentence or other final disposition.
4. What should I do if an Anderson County inmate search returns no result?
Try a broader surname search, remove middle names or suffixes, check alternate surnames and allow time for a very recent arrest to complete booking. If custody must be confirmed, call the Anderson County Detention Center at 864-260-4363. For an older arrest, also search court records or SLED CATCH.
5. How do I get an Anderson County arrest or incident report?
Request the report from the law-enforcement agency that created it. For Anderson County Sheriff’s Office records, use the ACSO FOIA process and include the person’s name, incident or arrest date, location, report number, booking number and court case number when known.
6. Where do I find Anderson County criminal court records?
Use the South Carolina Judicial Branch Case Records Search and select Anderson County, which is in the 10th Judicial Circuit and is county number 04. The Anderson County Clerk of Court maintains General Sessions criminal records, while Magistrate or Summary Courts handle qualifying lower-level criminal matters.
7. How do I check bond information for an Anderson County detainee?
Review the detainee’s booking information and then confirm the applicable court order. Anderson County Bond Court is located at 2404 North Main Street in Anderson and can be reached at 864-231-3119. Another hold or charge can affect release even when a bond amount appears.
8. How do I send mail to someone in the Anderson County Detention Center?
Since December 8, 2025, ordinary non-legal mail must be sent to the jail’s scanning service at PO Box 18247, Greensboro, NC 27419 and must include Facility ID 5005, the detainee’s name and detainee ID. Legal mail is sent directly to the Detention Center at 1009 David Lee Coffee Place, Anderson, SC 29625.
9. Can I search Anderson County warrants online?
The Sheriff’s Most Wanted page shows selected wanted suspects but is not a complete warrant database. Review the relevant court case and contact the Anderson County Sheriff’s Warrant Division when current warrant confirmation is necessary. Do not confront or attempt to detain anyone based on an online record.
10. How can an eligible Anderson County arrest record be expunged?
Start with the final court disposition. General Sessions expungement questions generally go through the Tenth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office, while a dismissed Magistrate or Municipal Court charge may require action through that court. SLED does not initiate expungement without the required court order.
