Peoria Police, Jail & Criminal Court Records Guide

Find Peoria Arrests, Police Reports, Jail Records, Warrants and Criminal Cases

A Peoria arrest can create several records in different systems. Peoria Police maintains City police reports and arrest information, the Peoria County Sheriff operates the county jail and warrant resources, the Circuit Clerk maintains felony, misdemeanor and other criminal court files, and Illinois State Police maintains statewide conviction-history information.

This guide connects those records so you can determine whether someone was jailed, search the criminal case, request the underlying Peoria Police or Sheriff report, understand Illinois pretrial-release rules, check a county warrant safely, obtain your own state record and review expungement or sealing options.

A Peoria Arrest Search Can Mean Four Different Things

Do not treat a jail result as a criminal background check. Peoria County’s Odyssey Public Access system can search jail records and court cases, but a booking shows a custody event while the court file shows how the prosecution actually developed.
Police record What Peoria Police or another arresting agency documented about the event.
Jail record Whether the person was processed into Peoria County custody.
Pretrial decision Whether the court releases the defendant or orders detention under Illinois law.
Court case Filed charges, hearings, motions, orders and case activity.
Disposition Dismissal, guilty plea, verdict, sentence or another legal outcome.
An arrest is not a conviction. Arrest and jail charges are allegations. The State’s Attorney can decline, alter or add charges, and a court can dismiss a case or find the defendant not guilty.

Arrest Law-enforcement action taking a person into custody or otherwise initiating the arrest process.
Booking Administrative jail intake. It is not the same as conviction or sentencing.
Charge Alleged offense connected to arrest or filing. Court charges may later differ.
Case number Court identifier used to follow the prosecution after the arrest.
Warrant Judicial authorization or order connected to arrest. Current status must be verified.
Pretrial detention Court-ordered detention under current Illinois pretrial law when statutory requirements are met.
Release conditions Court requirements imposed when a defendant is released before final disposition.
Disposition Final or operative legal result such as dismissal, plea, judgment, acquittal or sentence.
Never rewrite “charged with” as “convicted of.” The jail record is an early-stage record. Use the court docket to find the legal result.

Six Details to Match Before Identifying a Peoria Arrest Record

Full name Compare middle name and suffix.
Date / age Use lawful identity clues.
Arrest date Match the known incident period.
Case number Connect jail and court.
Agency PPD, Sheriff or another department.
Disposition Verify how the case ended.
Name-only matches can be wrong. Do not publish accusations, contact an employer or landlord, send money, confront someone or make another consequential decision from a name-only jail or warrant result.

Arrest is extremely recent Booking, identification, medical screening and data entry may still be underway.
Person has already been released Search court records even if current custody information is no longer obvious.
Name was entered differently Try maiden, hyphenated, compound, shortened or alternate spellings.

How to Request a Peoria Police Arrest or Incident Report

Peoria Police maintains its own arrest, criminal-history and police-report information. The department directs public requests for police records through the Illinois Freedom of Information Act rather than offering a simple public name-based Peoria Police arrest archive.

Confirm that Peoria Police created the report. A Peoria County jail booking may have been made by PPD, the Sheriff, Illinois State Police or another agency.
Collect the incident identifiers. Prepare the full name, approximate date and time, address or location, police report number and type of incident when known.
Open the City FOIA page. Use the City of Peoria FOIA request instructions.
Submit the request in writing. Police requests can be submitted using the City’s method, by fax, by mail or in person according to the current FOIA instructions.
Describe the specific records. Ask for an arrest report, incident report, offense report or other identified releasable material rather than “all records on this person.”
Review any redactions. Illinois FOIA and other statutes can protect certain investigative, victim, juvenile, medical, personal or confidential information.

When to Request Records From the Peoria County Sheriff Instead

If a Sheriff’s deputy created the arrest or incident report, request the record from the Sheriff’s Office rather than Peoria Police.

Identify the arresting agency. Use jail and court information to determine whether the Peoria County Sheriff created the underlying law-enforcement record.
Open the Sheriff’s FOIA process. Use the Peoria County Sheriff FOIA page.
Submit online or in person. The Sheriff’s Office currently accepts online requests through the County’s JustFOIA portal and in-person requests during normal office hours.
Be specific. Include incident date, location, involved names, report number and the exact document or media requested.
Save the request confirmation. Keep the tracking number, correspondence and any fee or redaction notice.
Sheriff Records Information: 309-697-7830. Sheriff’s Office/Jail: 301 N. Maxwell Road, Peoria, IL 61604.
Public list updates once every 24 hours

How to Check a Peoria County Warrant Safely

Peoria County publishes an online warrant resource for felony and misdemeanor warrants, but the Sheriff explicitly warns that it is not a complete list and that recent warrant changes may not yet appear.

Open the official Sheriff’s warrant page. Use Peoria County Warrants.
Search by name, case or offense information. Use available search identifiers rather than relying only on a common name.
Assume the public result may be delayed. The Sheriff states the database is updated once each 24 hours.
Remember that the list is incomplete. Criminal misdemeanor and felony warrants are included, while other case types may not appear.
Verify before any action. PCSO states every warrant must be verified through its system before apprehension.
Do not confront the person. Only peace officers should make an arrest based on an outstanding warrant.
Do not rely on a screenshot from yesterday. A warrant may have been served, recalled or otherwise resolved after the public database was last refreshed.
Warrant information / dispatch: The Sheriff’s warrant page directs users with location information to 309-672-6011.
Illinois abolished cash bail in September 2023

Peoria Pretrial Release Is Not the Old Cash-Bond System

Illinois’ Pretrial Fairness Act changed the normal release process statewide. Since September 18, 2023, new criminal cases are generally handled through judicial release and detention decisions rather than requiring a defendant to post a traditional cash bail amount.

Release A court may release a defendant before trial, with appropriate statutory conditions.
Conditions The judge can impose lawful conditions designed to address appearance and public-safety concerns.
Detention Pretrial detention requires the applicable legal process and judicial findings; it is not simply the inability to pay money.
Why old “bond” language can be confusing: Some Peoria County jail and warrant pages still display monetary-bond language or older bond-payment procedures. Those entries can relate to older orders, outstanding warrants or legacy cases. Do not assume a person arrested on a new 2026 case can simply pay 10% of a listed amount and leave.
For a new arrest: Check the current court docket and ask the Circuit Clerk, Public Defender or attorney about the actual pretrial release/detention order rather than calculating release from old cash-bond terminology.
Illinois Courts Pretrial Resources Review current statewide pretrial-release information, rules and data.

How to Search Peoria Criminal Court Records

The Peoria County Circuit Clerk maintains criminal court records. The County public-access portal is free for general public searching and does not require ordinary users to register.

Open Peoria County Records Inquiry. Use Odyssey Public Access.
Select Criminal and Traffic Case Records. This category covers the public criminal and traffic case search.
Use the court case number when available. A case number from the jail or charging information is more precise than a common-name search.
Otherwise search the defendant’s name. Compare more than one identifying field before relying on the result.
Review every related case. One person can have separate felony, misdemeanor, traffic, DUI, ordinance or contempt records.
Read events in chronological order. Look for filed charges, hearings, continuances, pretrial orders, indictment, motions, plea, trial and judgment entries.
Locate the actual disposition. Do not interpret “closed” as automatically meaning conviction.
Contact the Criminal Division when necessary. Circuit Clerk: 309-672-6000.
Criminal Division Felony, misdemeanor, contempt, conservation violations, juvenile delinquency and ordinance matters.
Traffic Division Traffic and DUI cases are maintained through the Circuit Clerk’s Traffic Division.
Court Calendar Odyssey also provides a separate Court Calendar location for hearing searches.
From arrest to final court result

How a Peoria Criminal Case Can Develop After Arrest

Charging review The State’s Attorney reviews law-enforcement evidence and determines what charges should be filed.
Booking allegations may change.
Preliminary / grand jury A felony can proceed through preliminary hearing or grand-jury review.
Indictment may follow.
Arraignment / litigation Plea, motions, discovery, negotiations and trial preparation occur.
Cases can resolve before trial.
Disposition Dismissal, acquittal, plea, guilty finding and sentencing are recorded by the court.
This is the outcome to verify.
Peoria County’s published court-process guidance: felony charges can proceed to a preliminary hearing or grand jury, followed by arraignment and—if not otherwise resolved—a bench or jury trial.
Police arrest does not control the final charge

What the Peoria County State’s Attorney Does After Arrest

The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Charging Division decides whether adult felony and misdemeanor charges should be filed. This is why the charge shown at arrest can differ from the later court case.

Law-enforcement referral Police and Sheriff’s agencies send qualifying criminal cases to prosecutors for review.
Felony charge After felony filing, the charging prosecutor can present the case to the grand jury seeking indictment.
Misdemeanor charge Misdemeanors are generally charged by information rather than grand-jury indictment.

Statewide Illinois conviction information

When to Use Illinois State Police Criminal History Instead

Illinois State Police is the statewide repository for Illinois criminal-history information. Under the Uniform Conviction Information Act, public criminal-history dissemination is limited to conviction information rather than functioning as a public statewide arrest list.

  • A Peoria jail search is local custody information.
  • A Peoria court search is local court-case information.
  • An ISP UCIA request is statewide Illinois conviction information.
  • Your own Access and Review process is fingerprint based.
  • ISP does not charge for its Access and Review processing, although the fingerprint provider can charge a service fee.

Current ISP fee schedule

ISP submission Published ISP fee What it means
UCIA name-based inquiry — manual/paper $16 State public conviction-information request using the applicable paper process.
UCIA name-based inquiry — electronic $10 ISP processing amount shown on the current electronic fee schedule.
UCIA fingerprint inquiry — manual $20 Fingerprint-card UCIA processing.
UCIA fingerprint inquiry — electronic $15 Electronic fingerprint UCIA processing; vendor charges can be separate.
Access and Review / Record Challenge No ISP processing charge Used to review and challenge your own Illinois criminal-history transcript; fingerprint provider may charge.
Local fingerprint option: Peoria County Sheriff’s current Civil Process fee page lists electronic Access and Review fingerprinting at $30. That is a local fingerprint-service charge, separate from ISP’s no-charge processing of the Access and Review itself.

Peoria County Expungement and Sealing of Arrest and Court Records

Illinois distinguishes expungement from sealing. Which remedy is available depends on the arrest, disposition, conviction history and applicable state law. Peoria County accepts the statewide Illinois Courts forms.

Get your complete history Identify all arrests, court cases and dispositions before deciding what can be requested.
Classify each case Determine whether the record may qualify for expungement, sealing or neither.
Complete statewide forms Illinois Courts released revised adult expungement/sealing forms in June 2026.
File in Peoria Circuit Court Follow local Circuit Clerk filing and service procedures and monitor any objection or hearing.
Current Peoria filing fee: Peoria County Circuit Clerk lists a $144 filing cost for expungement/sealing. Fee-waiver forms are available for qualifying filers.
ISP fee distinction: ISP lists no charge to submit a petition to expunge or seal criminal history to ISP, but currently lists a $60 ISP fee for processing a court order to expunge or seal criminal history. Court filing costs are separate.
Do not assume dismissal automatically erased the record. An arrest can remain on criminal-history systems unless it is legally restricted through the applicable automatic or court-ordered process.
After confirming current custody

Peoria police and court search questions

Peoria IL Arrest Records FAQs

1. How do I search Peoria IL arrest records online?

Start with Peoria County Odyssey Public Access. Choose Jail Records for a county jail booking or Criminal and Traffic Case Records for the related court case. If the arrest was made by Peoria Police and you need the police narrative, request the report separately from the City through FOIA.

2. How do I find out if someone is currently in Peoria County Jail?

Use Peoria County’s online jail-record search through Odyssey Public Access. For a very recent arrest or time-sensitive custody question, call the county inmate-information line at 309-697-7841.

3. How do I get a Peoria Police arrest or incident report?

Peoria Police public record requests are handled through the Illinois Freedom of Information Act. Submit the request in writing and identify the report with the incident date, location, involved names and police report number when known. The Police Records Unit is 309-494-8345.

4. Does a Peoria jail booking mean the person was convicted?

No. A booking records a custody event and allegations available at that stage. The State’s Attorney can change or decline charges, and a court can dismiss the case or find the defendant not guilty. Search the Circuit Clerk record for the actual disposition.

5. How do I search Peoria County criminal court records?

Use Peoria County Records Inquiry and select Criminal and Traffic Case Records. The public search is free for ordinary users. Search by case number when available or by defendant name, then review the case events and disposition.

6. How do I check a Peoria County arrest warrant?

Use the Peoria County Sheriff’s official warrant page. The Sheriff states that the public database updates once every 24 hours, is not a complete list of all active warrants and must be verified through law enforcement before apprehension or other action.

7. Can I still post cash bail for a new Peoria criminal case?

Illinois eliminated the traditional cash-bail system for new cases on September 18, 2023. Current cases use pretrial release and detention procedures. Some older Peoria County pages or warrants may still show monetary bond information, so verify the current judicial order rather than assuming a listed amount can simply be paid.

8. How do I obtain a statewide Illinois criminal-history check?

Use the Illinois State Police Bureau of Identification. Under the Uniform Conviction Information Act, public criminal-history dissemination is limited to conviction information. Your own full record can be reviewed through the fingerprint-based ISP Access and Review process.

9. Can a Peoria arrest record be expunged or sealed?

Some Illinois arrests and criminal cases may qualify for expungement or sealing depending on the disposition, conviction history and current law. Peoria County currently lists a $144 filing fee, and the Illinois Courts provides statewide approved forms revised in 2026.

10. What should I do if I cannot find a Peoria arrest record?

Check spelling variations, allow time for a recent booking to process, search the criminal court record, determine whether the person was cited or summoned instead of jailed, and confirm that the arrest occurred in Peoria County. For current custody questions, call 309-697-7841.
