Brazos County, Texas · Arrest, Jail & Court Records
Search Brazos County Jail Bookings, Arrest Records, Bonds and Criminal Court Cases
A Brazos County arrest can create several separate records. The Sheriff’s Justice Web can locate people who are currently in the Brazos County Detention Center or who were housed there previously, while the arresting law-enforcement agency controls its incident report and the Brazos County court system records what happened after booking.
This guide connects those records in one practical workflow. It explains Smart Search, court-hearing lookup, booking and detention contacts, bond types, mugshot and incarceration-verification fees, visitation, mail, commissary, property release, misdemeanor and felony court routing, public records, Texas DPS criminal-history searches, warrants, appointed counsel and expunction basics.

A Brazos County Booking Is Not Proof of Guilt
A jail entry records an arrest or custody event, not the final criminal outcome. Prosecutors can reject, amend or reduce charges; courts can dismiss cases or enter other dispositions; and a person may be released while a case remains active.
Jail / booking record
Best for confirming custody, booking history, arrest identifiers, initial charges and bond-related information.
Police or Sheriff report
Best for the incident narrative, location, responding officers, report number and releasable investigative material.
Court record
Best for formal charges, hearings, motions, pleas, dismissals, judgments and the ultimate case disposition.
Identity warning: Before publishing or acting on an arrest result, compare the full name, age or date of birth when available, booking date, SO or jail identifier, arresting agency and court case.

Open the official Brazos County Justice Web portal.
Use the
Brazos Portal linked by the Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff instructs users to use Smart Search to find someone who is currently in jail or who has previously been housed at the Brazos County Detention Center.
Search the legal name first.
Use the person’s full name when possible and test alternate legal spellings when a result is missing.
Refine the result when necessary.
Justice Web allows additional refinement with case numbers, case type or judgments.
Open every plausible record.
One person can have several bookings, criminal cases, bond entries or judgments.
Record the identifiers.
Save the case number, booking-related information, charge, bond information and arrest or filing dates displayed.
Check whether the person is still housed.
When current custody matters, confirm with the live portal or the Detention Center at
979-361-4800.
Continue to the court record.
Use the same Justice Web portal to search hearings and filed criminal case information.
Useful distinction: Justice Web is more than a “current inmates” page. Brazos County specifically describes it as a way to locate people who have been in the jail as well as those currently housed there.

Arrest happened very recently
Intake can involve fingerprinting, photographing, property inventory, medical screening, classification and data entry before the complete booking record becomes searchable.
Name is entered differently

County detention is separate from Texas state-prison, federal or another-county custody.
Case exists but jail record is hard to locate
Search Justice Web using a known case number or court criteria instead of a name-only query.

Warnings, bond and counsel-related issues may be addressed.

The appropriate misdemeanor or felony court takes over the case.

Cash, surety and personal bonds
Brazos County Bond and Release Options
Cash bond
The Sheriff’s published instructions allow exact cash or a credit/debit transaction through the county’s GovPay route.
The person posting cash bond must present valid state-issued identification.
Surety bond
Brazos County uses an approved bail-bond list. A bondsman not approved by the Brazos County Bail Bond Board cannot post a surety bond for a Detention Center inmate.
Verify the company before paying.
Personal recognizance bond
A judge with jurisdiction may authorize release without requiring the defendant to post the full financial security.
Eligibility is discretionary and case specific.
Cash-bond refund: Brazos County explains that cash bond is refundable, less applicable court processing, after the case reaches disposition. Refund handling is through the District Clerk.
Do not pay based on one online number alone: Confirm every active charge, case and hold with the Detention Center before posting bond.

Sheriff incident and arrest records
How to Request Brazos County Sheriff Arrest and Incident Records
Use the Sheriff’s open-record process when the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office created the incident or arrest report. An inmate being housed in Brazos County does not necessarily mean the Sheriff made the arrest.
Check Justice Web for the arresting agency.
Identify whether the record originated with BCSO, Bryan Police, College Station Police, Texas A&M University Police or another agency.
Use the Sheriff portal only for Sheriff-created records.
Brazos County provides a JustFOIA public portal for open-record requests and background-check requests.
Describe the incident precisely.
Include full legal name, date of birth when known, incident date, location and case or report number.
Name the exact records.
Ask for the incident report, arrest report, booking information, mugshot or other specific releasable material rather than “everything.”
Ask for electronic delivery when practical.
A focused electronic request can reduce unnecessary copy handling.
Expect lawful withholding or redaction.
Juvenile, medical, victim, active-investigation or other protected information may be withheld when Texas law permits or requires it.

Texas DPS Statewide Criminal-History Search
A Brazos County jail or court search is local. Texas DPS provides a separate public criminal-history name-search system for publicly releasable Texas records.
Search credit
One DPS criminal-history search currently costs $1 per credit.
Credit-card purchase fees
DPS currently lists a 2.25% fee per credit plus $0.25 per transaction when credits are purchased by card.
No-match search
A search that returns no matching records still consumes the search credit.
Create the required public CRD account.
DPS requires an account for public criminal-history searching.

Each search consumes a credit.
Enter first and last name.
DPS requires first and last name; middle or maiden name and date of birth can improve the search.
Use the complete date of birth when known.
DPS says a full DOB narrows results.
Preview possible matches carefully.
Similar names can return candidate records.
Do not treat name matching as positive identification.
DPS states that fingerprints are the only way to positively link a person to a criminal record.
Statewide search limitation: A Texas DPS public result and a Brazos County booking answer different questions. Use the county record for the local arrest and the DPS system when you need broader publicly releasable Texas history.

Court-appointed attorney process
How to Request Court-Appointed Counsel in Brazos County
Brazos County has both an Indigent Defense Office process and a Public Defender’s Office. Appointment is controlled through the courts and eligibility process; the Public Defender’s Office cannot simply be privately hired.
If still incarcerated
Jail detainees are given an opportunity to complete an Affidavit in Support of Court Appointed Attorney before magistrate warnings. If that was missed, ask jail staff for an application.
If released quickly
Brazos County says a person who applied in jail but bonds out within three days may need to complete a new affidavit and forward it to the appropriate court coordinator.
Before first court appearance
A defendant can apply by completing and forwarding the required affidavit to the court coordinator during normal business hours.

Record clearing after qualifying cases
Brazos County Expunction Basics
Texas expunction eligibility depends on the charge, disposition, waiting periods and other statutory conditions. A dismissal by itself does not mean every arrest-related record has already disappeared.
Order issued
When a valid Brazos County expunction order is entered, the affected agencies follow the record-destruction process required by Texas law.
60-day minimum
Brazos County states that the clerk must wait at least 60 days after the expunction order before expunging the designated records.
Up to one year
The county explains that the clerk generally has from 60 days up to one year from the order date to complete the designated expunction process.
Prosecutor objection can affect timing: Brazos County explains that a timely prosecutor objection to early expungement can require designated county offices to wait until the first anniversary of the order.
Agency list matters: Brazos County publishes local expunction contacts for the Sheriff, District Clerk, County Clerk, Bryan Police, College Station Police, Texas A&M University Police, DPS and other agencies.

Brazos County Arrest Records Search FAQs
1. How do I search Brazos County arrest and jail records?
Use the official Brazos County Justice Web portal and select Smart Search. The Sheriff states that Smart Search can locate someone who is currently in the Brazos County Detention Center or who has previously been housed there. Save the case number and booking-related identifiers, then check the connected court record for the final outcome.
2. Does Brazos County Justice Web show former inmates as well as current inmates?
Yes. The Brazos County Sheriff’s Justice Web instructions state that Smart Search can be used to find someone who has been in the jail or is currently in the Brazos County Detention Center. Use current-custody information or call the jail when you specifically need to know whether the person remains housed.
3. How do I find a Brazos County criminal court date?
Open Justice Web and select Search Hearings. The current search allows filtering by location, hearing type, case number, party name, business name, attorney name, attorney bar number or judicial officer, plus From and To dates. Recheck the setting before traveling because court dockets can change.
4. Where is the Brazos County jail and what is the phone number?
The Brazos County Detention Center is at 1835 Sandy Point Road, Bryan, Texas 77807. The 24-hour Detention Center line is 979-361-4800 and the Booking line is 979-361-4811.
5. How much does Brazos County charge for a mugshot or incarceration-date record?
The Sheriff’s currently published detention-record fee schedule lists $5 for a mugshot and $5 for dates of incarceration for ordinary requesters. The Sheriff notes that incarceration-date verification is free for Social Security and government agencies. Verify the current fee before requesting.
6. How can I post bond for a Brazos County inmate?
Brazos County publishes cash, surety and personal-recognizance bond routes. Cash bond can be posted using exact cash or the approved credit/debit payment route, and the person posting it must present valid state-issued identification. Surety bonds must be posted by a bondsman approved by the Brazos County Bail Bond Board. A judge may authorize a personal bond in qualifying cases.
7. What are Brazos County jail visitation hours?
All visits must currently be scheduled online. The Sheriff publishes video visitation daily from 1:00–4:00 p.m. and 5:00–7:00 p.m., with Video on Demand available from 9:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m. Remote or Video on Demand visits are currently listed at $0.20 per minute. Check the live visitation page before scheduling.
8. How do I request a Brazos County Sheriff arrest report?
First verify that the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office created the report. If it did, use the county’s JustFOIA public portal and include the full legal name, date of birth when known, incident date, location and report or court number. If Bryan Police, College Station Police or another agency made the arrest, request the incident report from that agency instead.
9. How do I search statewide Texas criminal history after a Brazos County arrest?
Use the Texas Department of Public Safety public criminal-history name-search system. DPS currently charges one $1 search credit per search, with additional card-purchase charges when credits are purchased by credit card. Name-based results must be verified carefully because DPS states that fingerprint identification is the only way to positively link a person to a criminal record.
10. Is a Brazos County arrest record proof of conviction?
No. A Brazos County arrest or jail booking records an allegation and custody event. Charges can be changed, rejected, dismissed or resolved without a conviction. Verify the defendant with multiple identifiers and review the Brazos County court disposition to determine the final legal outcome.
