Gordon County Georgia · Jail, Arrest & Criminal Court Guide
Find a Gordon County Jail Booking and Follow the Arrest to Court
A Gordon County arrest can create several separate public records. The Sheriff maintains jail bookings, custody, bonds and Sheriff reports. Magistrate Court handles warrants, first appearances and many early criminal proceedings. Superior Court maintains felony criminal cases, while Probate and Calhoun Municipal Court handle certain lower-level matters.
This guide explains how to search current inmates, see bookings from the last 24 hours, find older booking dates, verify charges and bonds, request the arrest report, locate the correct court file, obtain copies, prepare for first appearance, visit or fund an inmate account, and check whether an old Georgia arrest may qualify for record restriction.

An arrest is not a conviction. A Gordon County jail charge records an allegation, warrant, hold or custody basis at a particular stage. Prosecutors can change or decline charges, and courts can dismiss a case or enter another disposition. Verify the correct person and final court record before describing an outcome.
Start with the record that answers the question
Gordon County Jail, Sheriff, Magistrate and Superior Court Records Are Different
Is the person in custody?
Use Gordon County Sheriff’s inmate information system.
Best for: current inmates, recent bookings, booking dates, release questions, bonds, visits and jail services.
What allegedly happened?
Request the incident or arrest record from the law-enforcement agency that created it.
Best for: incident narrative, report details, arresting officer and releasable investigative records.
Was there a warrant or first appearance?
Gordon Magistrate Court issues arrest and search warrants, conducts first appearances and can set bail within its jurisdiction.
Best for: warrant process, first appearance, bond and probable-cause proceedings.
What happened to a felony?
Gordon Superior Court has felony jurisdiction and the Clerk maintains criminal files and warrants.
Best for: indictment, arraignment, motions, plea, trial, dismissal, judgment and sentence.

Sheriff-linked inmate database
How to Search Gordon County Jail Inmates
Gordon County Sheriff states that its inmate information is generated automatically from the in-house database and is updated every 15 minutes. The Sheriff links users to the current inmate-search system hosted by its database provider.
Why this matters: A very recent booking may change after intake, bond processing or release. Save the search time and recheck before making a time-sensitive decision.
Continue to the Sheriff-linked inmate database.
The official Sheriff page sends users to the Gordon County OffenderIndex search.
Use Current Inmates for custody right now.
Enter the first and/or last name and open the plausible result.
Search conservatively.
Start with the legal surname. If the name may be misspelled or hyphenated, try a shorter variation.
Do not stop at a matching name.
Compare booking date, charges, age or other available identifying information.
Save the booking information.
Record the name exactly as shown, booking date, charges, bond information and any displayed case or arrest identifiers.
Identify whether custody is current or historical.
Previous inmate records are useful for an old arrest but do not establish present jail status.
Follow the case into court.
A jail result is not the final criminal record. Use the appropriate court to determine what happened after booking.

Open the Sheriff-Linked Gordon Inmate Database

Three different jail-search modes
Current Inmates vs Last 24 Hours vs Booking-Date Search
Current Inmates
Use this when the first question is whether someone appears to be in Gordon County Jail now.
Bookings Over Last 24 Hours
Use this to identify very recent jail intake even when you are not sure whether the person remains incarcerated.
Inmates by Booking Date
Enter a date range when you know approximately when the arrest or booking occurred.
Older-history option: The booking-date search includes an “Include Previous Inmates In Search” option. The system warns that including previous inmates may take longer.
A previous booking is not proof of a conviction. Use the Clerk and court file for dismissal, indictment, plea, verdict or sentence.

No Gordon County Inmate Record Found? Follow This Order
Booking is extremely recent
Intake and database processing may still be underway even with the 15-minute automated update cycle.
Name format is different
Try shortened spelling, maiden name, former name, hyphen variation or suffix.
Person was released
Move from Current Inmates to the booking-date search and include previous inmates.
Wrong facility
The person may have been arrested in Gordon County but transferred to another county, state or federal agency.
City case
An arrest within Calhoun can involve Calhoun Police and Municipal Court even though the person was processed through the Gordon jail.
No Gordon jail booking
A citation, summons or another custodial arrangement can produce a court matter without a matching current Gordon inmate record.
Search is too old
Use previous-inmate search, court records and Sheriff report requests.
Record is restricted
Georgia record-restriction rules can affect non-criminal-justice access to qualifying arrest information.
Identity is uncertain
Call Jail Operations rather than guessing from a same-name result.
“I am trying to verify the custody or booking status of [full legal name], who may have been arrested around [date]. I searched the online inmate information but could not confirm the record. Can you tell me whether the person is currently booked, previously released, transferred, or listed under another identifying format?”

Sheriff incident / arrest records
How to Request a Gordon County Sheriff Arrest or Incident Report
The Gordon County Sheriff identifies Captain Chuck Kirby as the current Custodian of Records and directs public-record requests to the records custodian. The Sheriff site also provides a dedicated incident/accident report request route.
Identify the arresting agency first.
A Gordon County jail booking can originate from the Sheriff, Calhoun Police, another municipal agency, Georgia State Patrol or another authority.
Request from the agency that created the report.
Gordon County Sheriff cannot substitute for a Calhoun Police incident report.
Name the record precisely.
Ask for the incident report, arrest report, booking record or other existing document.
Include useful identifiers.
Give full legal name, date of incident, location, booking date and case/report number when known.
Prefer a written request for significant records.
Georgia’s Attorney General explains that written requests provide a clearer record of scope and timing.
Request electronic delivery when practical.
This can reduce unnecessary copying and mailing.
Ask for a cost estimate for a broad request.
Search, retrieval and redaction time may be billable under Georgia law.
Use the court for disposition.
A Sheriff report describes law-enforcement activity; it is not the final judgment.
Georgia Open Records timing: An agency generally must produce responsive records within three business days or provide a written response explaining when they will be available, anticipated cost and any statutory basis for withholding.
General Georgia fee framework: Search, retrieval and redaction can be charged at the rate of the lowest-paid qualified employee, but the first 15 minutes are not charged. General copying charges may be assessed as allowed by Georgia law unless another specific statutory fee applies.
“Under the Georgia Open Records Act, I request an electronic copy of the existing incident and arrest report associated with [full legal name], for an incident occurring on or about [date] at [location]. The related Gordon County booking date is approximately [date], and report/case number is [number if known]. Please advise me of any estimated cost before processing if significant search, retrieval or redaction time will be required.”

Georgia calls the process record restriction
How Gordon County Arrest Record Restriction Works
Georgia uses “record restriction” for the process that limits access to qualifying criminal-history information for non-criminal-justice purposes. Restriction does not necessarily destroy every court, law-enforcement, news or private record.
Arrests after July 1, 2013
GBI states that there is no arresting-agency application process for these arrests. Contact the appropriate prosecutor about restriction eligibility and disposition reporting.
Arrests before July 1, 2013
GBI states that the older process begins with a Request to Restrict Arrest Record application through the arresting agency.
Practical Gordon County restriction workflow
Get your Georgia criminal history.
Review exactly what GCIC currently shows for the arrest.
Locate the final Gordon County court disposition.
A missing or incorrect disposition should be corrected by the responsible criminal-justice agency before restriction is expected to work properly.
Identify the arrest date.
The July 1, 2013 dividing line affects which process applies.
Identify the arresting agency.
For an older arrest, the restriction application begins there.
Identify the proper prosecutor.
The prosecutor must approve or process qualifying restrictions under Georgia law.
Do not assume a dismissal automatically fixes every database.
Confirm that the correct final disposition reached GCIC and other relevant records.
Verify after processing.
Recheck the Georgia criminal-history record once the restriction has been completed.
GBI’s restriction guidance lists examples such as dismissed, not presented to the grand jury, no further action anticipated, nolle prossed/prosequi, dead docket or no record on file as dispositions that may be relevant to restriction. Eligibility is case-specific and Georgia law contains additional rules and exceptions.

Gordon County-specific questions
Gordon County GA Arrest Records Search FAQs
1. How do I search Gordon County arrest records online?
Start with Gordon County Sheriff’s Inmate Information page. The Sheriff links to an inmate database that offers Current Inmates, Bookings Over Last 24 Hours and Inmates by Booking Date. Use the jail result to identify the booking, then search the appropriate Gordon County court for the final criminal case outcome.
2. How often is Gordon County Jail inmate information updated?
The Gordon County Sheriff states that the inmate-information report is automatically generated from its in-house database and updated every 15 minutes. A very recent intake, bond, release or transfer can still require a later recheck or confirmation with Jail Operations.
3. Can I search previous Gordon County Jail inmates?
Yes. The Sheriff-linked inmate database includes an Inmates by Booking Date search and an option to include previous inmates. Leave the date fields blank only when the search instructions permit it, or enter a known date range to narrow an older booking.
4. Which court handles a Gordon County felony arrest?
Gordon County Superior Court has exclusive jurisdiction over felony criminal cases. Gordon County is part of the Cherokee Judicial Circuit. The Clerk of Superior Court maintains criminal cases and can be reached at 706-629-9533.
5. What time is first appearance at Gordon County Jail?
The Sheriff currently states that first appearance hearings are held Monday through Friday at approximately 2:00 p.m., with weekend or other hearing times designated by the Magistrate Judge. Hearings are conducted by video from the Jail Courtroom and may be viewed in the jail lobby at the scheduled time.
6. How much is the Gordon County Jail cash-bond fee?
The jail currently requires an additional $20 cash bond fee for each person being bonded out. A cash bond itself must be paid in the full amount using exact U.S. currency because the jail cannot make change. The jail does not accept cash bonds for Calhoun City cases; those are directed to Calhoun Municipal Court.
7. Can I use property to bond someone out of Gordon County Jail?
Yes, when Sheriff requirements are satisfied. Property within Gordon County must have an assessed value equal to or greater than the bond, property taxes must be current and every listed owner must appear and sign. The inmate cannot use property that they own or co-own to secure their own bond.
8. What are Gordon County Jail visitation hours?
On-site video visitation is currently available Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.; and no visits are listed on Thursday. On-site visitation is limited to one per week, while the Sheriff allows up to four remote JailATM sessions daily.
9. How do I obtain a Gordon County arrest or incident report?
Identify the law-enforcement agency that created the report. For Gordon County Sheriff records, use the Sheriff’s incident/accident report request route or address an Open Records request to the Sheriff’s Custodian of Records. Include the full name, incident date, location and report or booking number when known.
10. Can a Gordon County arrest be restricted from a Georgia criminal-history record?
Some Georgia arrest records can qualify for record restriction. GBI states that arrests after July 1, 2013 generally do not use an arresting-agency application; the appropriate prosecutor should be contacted. For arrests before July 1, 2013, the older application process begins with the arresting agency. Eligibility depends on the disposition and other legal requirements.
