How Cherokee County warrants and first appearances work
The Sheriff’s Warrant/Civil Unit serves and maintains local warrants, assists other counties with local service, places and releases outside-agency holds and arranges felony extraditions from outside Georgia.
Issues arrest and search warrants, hears civilian warrant applications and handles initial appearance and bail matters.
Maintains and serves local warrants and coordinates holds, extradition and service with courts and agencies.

Use the approved JailATM commissary provider and the exact inmate identity.
The Adult Detention Center ATM accepts credit cards, debit cards and cash.
Money orders are accepted in any amount. Cash and personal checks are not accepted through mail.
- Money found in an inmate’s possession during booking is receipted and credited to the inmate account.
- Account funds can be used for commissary purchases, medical services and other permitted charges.
- The Sheriff states that funds remaining at release are returned during normal business hours, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cherokee County inmate mail, legal mail and property rules
Ordinary personal mail is sent through the detention center’s designated scanning process. The central facility opens and scans eligible personal correspondence for electronic delivery to the inmate.

- Nudity, indecent imagery or sexually explicit content.
- Illegal activity, drugs, weapons or instructions for explosives.
- Gang signs, codes or drawings.
- Escape plans, riot material or instructions encouraging jail disorder.
- Material advocating violence against law enforcement.
- Mechanical or construction instructions that create a security concern.
- Items with adhesives, chemicals or substances considered a health, fire or security hazard.
Legal and government correspondence
Privileged legal or government mail is sent directly to the Adult Detention Center rather than the personal-mail scanning location. It may be opened and inspected for contraband in the inmate’s presence but is not to be read or censored. Legal mail must come from a legally approved entity or attorney of record.
Indigent writing supplies
- Stamped envelopes, paper and pencils may be purchased through commissary.
- An inmate declared indigent can receive an indigent pack twice each week.
- The pack includes stamped envelopes, a pencil and sufficient writing paper.
- Large envelopes for legal paperwork may be available through Records and ID, with postage debited from the inmate account.

How Cherokee County arrest-record restriction works
Georgia now uses the term record restriction for the process historically called expungement. Restriction limits access to an eligible arrest cycle for non-criminal-justice purposes, such as many employment or licensing searches. It does not necessarily destroy every court, agency or private record.

- Begin the restriction request with the arresting agency.
- The arresting agency may charge a processing fee not exceeding $50 where authorized.

The Sheriff states that there is no separate arresting-agency application process for later arrests. The prosecutor may approve restriction at sentencing or upon completion of the sentence, and the restriction should be reflected through the case-disposition process when approved.

The Solicitor-General offers structured diversion for certain eligible defendants. Completion can affect how the misdemeanor case is resolved.
