Canyon County Jail and Court Search: Verify the Arrest, Custody and Case Outcome

Canyon County publishes separate systems for recent arrests and people currently housed in the jail. The Sheriff maintains arrest reports and booking records, while Idaho iCourt and the Canyon County Clerk show the filed criminal case.

This guide explains those differences, the exact search sequence, record-request rules, court-copy fees, warrant checks, bond timing, inmate mail, visits, commissary, medical questions and Idaho criminal-history correction procedures.

An arrest listing is not a conviction record. Canyon County warns that the charges shown online may not reflect the charges actually filed by the Prosecuting Attorney or their current status. Verify the person with multiple identifiers and then check the Idaho court case.

Choose the Canyon County record that answers your question

CURRENT ARRESTS Was the person recently arrested?

Use the recent-arrest list to review the arrest date, inmate ID, arresting agency, charge count and booking-charge descriptions.

JAIL ROSTER Is the person housed now?

Use the roster for present housing status and listed custody-program participation. Call the jail when the current status is unclear.

SHERIFF RECORDS What does the police report say?

Request the narrative, booking sheet, witness statements, photographs or Sheriff arrest history in writing.

IDAHO COURTS What happened to the charge?

Use iCourt for the filed case, register of actions, hearings, warrants, judgments and disposition available to the public.

Best workflow: Search Current Arrests, check the Jail Roster, save the inmate ID and agency, search iCourt, and request only the specific report or certified court document still needed.

Official search workflow

How to search Canyon County arrests without missing a record

Open Current Arrests for a recent booking This system lists people who are or were housed in the Canyon County Jail for criminal offenses. It displays the name, inmate ID, arrest date, arresting agency and listed booking charges.
Use the surname first Search with the legal last name. When the portal offers a list rather than a search box, use the first letter of the surname and review all possible matches.
Open the full arrest entry Record the inmate ID, arrest date, arresting agency, charge count and every statute or charge description.
Check the Jail Roster separately A person may appear in Current Arrests but no longer be housed. The Jail Roster is the better source for present custody or participation in a listed custody program.
Compare both systems carefully A missing roster entry can mean release, transfer or an exclusion from the roster. A roster entry can include a person who is not physically confined in an ordinary housing unit.
Save the inmate ID The inmate ID is needed for mail, service accounts, deposits and many Detention Center questions.
Identify the arresting agency Current arrests may involve the Canyon County Sheriff, Caldwell Police, Nampa Police or another agency. The arresting agency normally controls the incident report.
Confirm status before paying or traveling Call 208-454-7541 when the booking is recent, release appears possible or the person has a common name.
Important difference

Current Arrests and the Jail Roster are not the same list

Which Canyon County system should you use?
System Who may appear Who may be excluded Best use
Current Arrests People who are or were housed in Canyon County Jail for criminal offenses. Juvenile offenders and Sheriff’s Inmate Labor Detail participants are not reflected. Recent arrest date, agency, inmate ID and booking charges.
Jail Roster People currently housed, adults with juvenile offenses, juveniles with adult charges, civil-contempt cases and certain program participants. People who were released, transferred or no longer listed in a qualifying program. Current custody and listed program status.
Idaho iCourt Publicly accessible filed court cases and register-of-actions information. Sealed, confidential, restricted or unavailable records. Filed charges, hearings, warrants, orders and disposition.
Sheriff records request Existing Sheriff records responsive to a written request and legally releasable. Exempt, confidential, active-investigation or another agency’s records. Narrative reports, booking sheets, photographs and local arrest history.
Roster warning: Canyon County states that the Jail Roster may include people in Sheriff’s Inmate Labor Detail, Pretrial Release and Intensive Community Supervision. A roster listing does not always mean the person is sitting inside a standard jail housing unit.
Result decoder

What each Canyon County arrest field means

Arrest and roster fields explained
Field What it identifies What it does not prove Next action
Name The name displayed in the county custody system. A name alone does not prove identity. Compare inmate ID, arrest date, birth information and agency.
ID number The inmate identifier used by Canyon County. It does not show the final outcome of the criminal case. Use it for mail, calls, visits, deposits and jail questions.
Arrest date The date associated with the displayed arrest or booking event. It may differ from the offense date or court filing date. Use it to separate multiple arrests involving the same name.
Arresting agency The law-enforcement agency responsible for the arrest. It does not mean the agency controls the court case. Request the police narrative from this agency.
Charge count The number of booking-charge lines connected with the arrest. It may not match the number of counts later filed by the prosecutor. Read each charge separately and search iCourt.
Statute or charge The Idaho Code or municipal allegation entered for booking. It does not establish guilt or final prosecution status. Compare it with the criminal complaint or information.
M or F indicator A system indicator that may identify misdemeanor or felony classification. It does not replace the filed court document. Confirm the filed case type through iCourt.
Change-of-status option A notification feature associated with the county arrest listing. It does not replace court notices or direct confirmation. Use notifications as a convenience and recheck official sources.
Roster listing The person is listed as currently housed or included in a qualifying county program. It may not describe the person’s physical housing location. Call the Detention Center before visiting or arranging pickup.
County disclaimer: The charge list may not reflect the actual charges filed by the Canyon County Prosecuting Attorney or the present status of those charges.
Same-name protection

Verify the person before using the arrest information

Full first and last name match
Middle name, suffix or alias is consistent
Inmate ID matches another county record
Arrest date matches the known incident
Arresting agency matches the location
Court case belongs to the same person
Use at least two independent identifiers. Never send money, contact an employer, publish a mugshot or accuse someone based only on a matching name.
Same name, different arrest date Treat the entries as separate arrest events until inmate IDs and court cases are compared.
Same name, different inmate ID Do not assume the records belong to the same person.
Similar photograph Appearance is not a dependable legal identifier. Use official numbers and demographic information.
Charge appears familiar A similar charge does not establish identity. Compare the date, agency and case number.
Troubleshooting

No Canyon County arrest record found? Follow this order

The arrest happened recently Intake, identification, medical screening, property inventory and system entry may still be underway.
You searched only Current Arrests Check the Jail Roster for current housing or program status.
You searched only the Jail Roster The person may already be released. Check Current Arrests and iCourt.
The name is recorded differently Search the surname alone and test maiden names, compound surnames, aliases and suffixes.
The person is a juvenile Juvenile offenders are excluded from Current Arrests unless handled under an adult-charge situation reflected elsewhere.
The person is in SILD Sheriff’s Inmate Labor Detail is not reflected in the Current Arrests database but may appear in the Jail Roster.
The arrest occurred in another county Search the jurisdiction where booking occurred, not simply the person’s home address.
The person was transferred Custody may have moved to another county, the Idaho Department of Correction or a federal agency.
Useful call script “I am trying to confirm whether [full legal name], date of birth [date], is currently associated with a Canyon County booking. The arrest may have occurred on [date] through [agency]. I have inmate ID [number] or case number [number]. Can you confirm whether the person is housed, released, transferred or participating in another custody program?”

How to search the Idaho court case after a Canyon County arrest

Open the Idaho iCourt Portal Search by case number whenever one is available. A case number is more reliable than a common name.
When searching by name, use the full legal name Include middle name or initial when needed, but begin broadly enough to catch variations.
Choose the record with a Register of Actions Canyon County’s warrant guidance directs users to review cases containing a Register of Actions rather than a case with no history.
Confirm Canyon County and the case type Verify the county, defendant, filing date and criminal division before relying on the result.
Read the case history in order Look for the complaint, information, arraignment, bond order, warrant, hearings, plea, judgment and sentencing entries.
Compare filed charges with booking charges The prosecutor may file fewer, more, amended or different charges from those shown at booking.
Locate the disposition Identify whether the charge remains pending or ended through dismissal, acquittal, plea, conviction or another court action.
Order the actual document when necessary Docket labels can be abbreviated. Request the judgment, dismissal, sentencing order or other controlling document for formal use.
Common court entries and what to check
Entry What it usually means What to verify
Complaint filed A criminal allegation was presented to the court. Read each count and statutory citation.
Arraignment The defendant appears for formal court processing and plea-related procedure. Review bond, counsel and next-hearing entries.
Warrant issued The court entered a warrant-related action. Check later entries for service, quash or recall.
Bond set or modified The court established or changed release conditions. Read the actual order and confirm other holds.
Dismissed The court dismissed a charge or case. Confirm whether every count was dismissed.
Acquitted The person was found not guilty of the resolved count. Check whether other counts remained.
Judgment entered The court entered a formal judgment. Obtain the judgment and sentence when formal proof is needed.
Closed The case is no longer shown as active. Closed alone does not explain the outcome.

Warrant guidance

How Canyon County warrants are issued and checked

Arrest warrants are issued by courts, not by the Sheriff. The Canyon County Warrants Unit receives court-issued warrants, verifies identifying information and enters the warrant into local and national law-enforcement databases.

Approximately 400

New warrants are processed by the unit each month.

Approximately 7,000

Wanted-person files are maintained by the unit.

Identity verification

The unit checks details such as birth date, hair, eyes and tattoos before entry.

Search Idaho iCourt by name and birth information Review the case containing a Register of Actions.
Read the case history Look for a warrant entry and then check for later service, recall, quash or court action.
Call the Warrants Unit when uncertain Provide the full name and date of birth. Without both, staff may be unable to confirm the person.
Do not confront anyone Give suspected warrant information to law enforcement.

Personal warrant concern: Canyon County states that once an arrest warrant is issued, the person must be booked into jail. The Sheriff encourages voluntary surrender, preferably between 6 and 7 a.m. on a weekday so the person may have a better chance of seeing a judge that day.
After arrest

What happens after booking into Canyon County Jail?

Identity and intake Staff confirm the person’s identity, enter booking information and create the inmate record.
Property processing Personal property and funds are inventoried and secured under detention procedures.
Medical screening Medical staff review health concerns and medication needs.
Classification Inmate Classifications uses interviews and records checks to determine an appropriate housing assignment.
Court and transport scheduling Court and Transports coordinates court movement. Transport days and times are not shared publicly for security reasons.
Arraignment timing In-custody adult arraignments are generally at 1:30 p.m.; juvenile in-custody arraignments are generally at 11 a.m.
Bond, release or continued custody The person may post bond, remain on a hold, receive another court order or continue in custody.
Transfer or alternative program A person may transfer to another agency or enter an approved program such as Pretrial Release, ICS, SILD or house arrest.
Weekend timing: Canyon County states that a person booked Friday, Saturday or Sunday generally will not see the judge until Monday. When Monday is a holiday, the appearance moves to Tuesday.
Courtroom communication: Communication between inmates and members of the public in the courtroom is not allowed. A person attempting to communicate with an inmate may be told to leave.
Bond and release

Canyon County bond, surrender and release checks

Cash bond

A person may bond themselves when the correct cash amount and change are available, but funds should be given to family or friends before booking because jail staff secure valuables.

Bond company

A bond company may be contacted in advance and can meet the person at the jail. The Sheriff does not recommend a particular company.

Multiple holds

Posting one bond does not guarantee release when another warrant, hold, case or jurisdiction remains.

Confirm every charge and warrant Review the roster, arrest listing and iCourt history before paying.
Ask whether another agency has a hold Another county, probation, parole, state or federal agency can prevent release.
Confirm the accepted bond method Bond procedures can depend on the court order and bond type.
Keep every receipt Save the inmate ID, case number, bond amount, payment time and receipt.
Wait for physical release confirmation Court action or payment does not mean the person has completed release processing.
Fraud warning: Do not send bond money through gift cards, cryptocurrency or a private payment account because a caller claims to represent the court or jail. Confirm the case and payment procedure independently.

Idaho criminal history

When a Canyon County search is not broad enough

Canyon County systems are local. Idaho State Police Bureau of Criminal Identification maintains the statewide Idaho criminal-history repository based on fingerprint-supported arrest records reported by Idaho criminal-justice agencies.

Idaho State Police background-check options
Option Published fee Identification level Important limit
Name-based Idaho check $20 Name and demographic information. Aliases or false birth dates can reduce accuracy; results are not notarized.
Fingerprint-based Idaho check $25 Positive fingerprint identification. Fingerprint card, form and complete payment are required.
ISP fingerprinting service $10 first card; $5 each additional card Inked and rolled fingerprints. Available at ISP Meridian headquarters, not district offices.
Card payment $1 plus 2.5% Payment charge only. Added to credit or debit transactions.

What an Idaho criminal history includes

  • Idaho arrest information reported to BCI and supported by fingerprints.
  • Available dispositions reported by Idaho courts or criminal-justice agencies.
  • Idaho arrests only.

What it does not automatically include

  • Arrests from another state.
  • FBI records.
  • Federal court convictions.
  • A local arrest when no arrest fingerprint card was submitted to BCI.
  • Ordinary juvenile records, unless the juvenile was adjudicated as an adult.
Local versus statewide: A local law-enforcement agency may search only its own records for the public. Idaho State Police BCI is the authorized source for a statewide Idaho criminal-history check.
Correction and expungement

Correcting or expunging an Idaho arrest record

If the record belongs to another person

Save the incorrect result Record the source, inmate ID, case number, arrest date and exact field that appears wrong.
Identify the source of the error The Sheriff controls its arrest record, the jail controls custody data, the Clerk controls court entries and ISP controls statewide criminal history.
Obtain fingerprint-based Idaho history Fingerprints provide positive identification when challenging a statewide record.
Supply supporting agency or court documents Idaho State Police reviews supplemental records from the arresting agency or court and updates the record when appropriate.
No charge for a challenge fingerprint check: ISP states that when a person challenges inaccurate information, the fingerprint-based check used for the challenge is processed without charge.

When Idaho expungement may be available

Idaho State Police states that the fingerprint and criminal-history record connected with an arrest or criminal summons may be expunged through a written request when one of these conditions applies:

No indictment or information was filed within one year of the arrest or summons
The person was acquitted of every offense arising from the incident
Every charge arising from the incident was dismissed
Arresting-agency or court records prove compliance with the statute
Dismissal remains visible until legal action is taken. ISP states that a dismissed charge continues to appear in criminal history with the dismissal noted unless the record qualifies for and completes the expungement process.
Idaho criminal-history information otherwise remains indefinitely. Expungement under the ISP process is not the same as deleting every court, news, private database or agency record that may exist.
