Fort Myers & Lee County Arrest Records Guide

Find Fort Myers Arrest, Jail and Criminal Court Records

A Fort Myers arrest search is not one database. Use the Lee County Sheriff’s arrest portal to check jail bookings and custody, Fort Myers Police or Sheriff records for arrest affidavits and incident reports, Lee County Clerk for the criminal case and final court disposition, and FDLE when you need a broader Florida criminal-history check.

This guide shows exactly which system answers each question, which names and dates to enter, how to connect a booking to a court case, what an arrest record does not prove, how to request report copies and what to do when a case was dismissed, sealed or expunged.

Fort Myers Police 239-321-7700

Four Different Records Can Exist After One Fort Myers Arrest

1 Jail / Booking Record Shows the booking event, custody status and charge information available to the Lee County Jail at that time.
2 Police or Sheriff Report May include the offense report, arrest affidavit, call-for-service details or other releasable agency records.
3 Criminal Court Case Shows what prosecutors and courts did after arrest: charges filed, hearings, pleas, dismissal, adjudication, sentence and case status when public.
4 FDLE Criminal History A statewide Florida criminal-history search is broader than a Lee County jail or local police search.
Most important rule: An arrest or jail booking does not establish guilt. The Sheriff specifically states that its arrest-search information does not show the final disposition of criminal charges. Use the Lee County Clerk’s criminal case system to check what happened in court.

Choose the Fort Myers Record You Need

See whether someone is in jail now Search the Lee County Sheriff database and filter the results for current custody.
Find a recent arrest or release Search the booking portal using name, date of birth, booking date or release date.
Read the criminal court outcome Search Lee Clerk under Criminal & Traffic by name or case number.
Get the police or arrest report Request releasable records from Fort Myers Police or Lee County Sheriff depending on the arresting agency.
Run a statewide Florida history Use FDLE rather than treating one county’s arrest search as a statewide background check.
Address a sealed or expunged case Follow FDLE eligibility and Lee County court procedures rather than assuming a dismissal automatically deletes every record.

Verify These Six Details Before You Identify Someone

Full name Match spelling and suffix.
Date of birth Essential for common names.
Booking # Unique booking reference.
Booking date Match the known incident.
Custody status Current vs released.
Charge / case Follow to Clerk record.
Do not identify a person from name alone. Fort Myers and Lee County records can include people with the same or similar names. DOB, booking date, case number and other identifiers matter.

Recent Bookings and Recent Releases

The Sheriff arrest-search page provides direct views for recent bookings and recent releases in addition to the standard search fields.

Recent booking Useful when the arrest happened very recently and you do not yet have a booking number.
Recent release Useful when the person was booked and released before you checked the jail system.
Historical search Use the name plus booking or release date range when the record is not visible in the recent lists.
Timing matters: A brand-new arrest may move through booking before every related court filing appears in the Clerk system. Check both systems again when the court case has not yet populated.

What a Lee County Jail Record Can—and Cannot—Tell You

Booking Information What It Means What It Does Not Prove
Booking number Identifier assigned to that jail booking. It is not the criminal court case number.
Booking date When the person entered the booking process. It does not establish the date of every alleged offense.
Charge Charge information available during arrest or detention. Prosecutors may later amend, decline or dismiss charges.
Custody status Whether the system currently identifies the person as held or released. Release does not mean dismissal or acquittal.
Release date When that jail custody event ended. It does not show final case disposition.
Bond information May reflect release conditions available at that stage. Court orders and conditions can later change.

Follow an Arrest From Booking to Final Court Outcome

1 Arrest / detention A law-enforcement agency takes the person into custody based on the circumstances known at that point.
2 Jail booking LCSO creates a booking record with available identity, charge and custody information.
3 Charging decision The criminal case may proceed with filed charges, amended charges or no filed prosecution.
4 Court proceedings Hearings, motions, pleas, trial, dismissal or other case activity appear through the Clerk when public.
5 Disposition The court record is the place to check dismissal, adjudication, plea, sentence or other final case result.
Do not stop at stage 2. A booking-site search is incomplete when your question is “Was this person convicted?” or “What happened to the charge?”

How to Read Arrest Charges Without Overstating What They Mean

Arrest charge The alleged offense associated with the arrest or detention at that stage.
Filed court charge The charge formally pursued in the court case may differ from the arrest description.
Disposition The result of the court process—such as dismissal, plea, acquittal, adjudication or another outcome.
Practical comparison: Copy the arrest date and charge from the jail result, then compare them with the Clerk’s case number, offense entries and disposition. Differences are not automatically errors; the criminal case can change after arrest.

Case Disposition Decoder

Term You May See General Meaning Research Next Step
Dismissed The charge or case was dismissed rather than resulting in a conviction on that count. Check whether other counts remain and whether a sealing remedy may apply.
Nolle prosequi / no-file type outcome The prosecution did not continue a charge in the usual way. Read the docket and actual filing; eligibility for sealing or expungement is a separate issue.
Adjudicated guilty A judgment of guilt was entered. Review sentence and later compliance or post-judgment entries.
Adjudication withheld Florida law can allow a court to withhold formal adjudication in some cases. Do not describe it as a simple dismissal; review the plea, sentence and legal consequences separately.
Acquitted / not guilty The defendant was not found guilty of the relevant charge. Check whether the arrest record remains publicly searchable and whether sealing/expungement options apply.
Pending The case has not reached final disposition. Check upcoming hearings and docket entries rather than assuming an outcome.
Use court terminology carefully. “Arrested,” “charged,” “convicted,” “dismissed,” and “case closed” describe different events and should not be used interchangeably.

Fort Myers Police Department Arrest and Incident Records

If the Fort Myers Police Department made the arrest or handled the incident, start with the City of Fort Myers public-records process rather than assuming the Sheriff holds the complete police report.

Local vs Florida Statewide Background Check

Jail booking search
Custody event
Local Sheriff check
Local records scope
Lee court search
Local prosecution outcome
FDLE check
Florida criminal history
Lee County Sheriff local background check Provide name, date of birth, race and sex. The Sheriff currently lists a $10 fee for its local background check.
FDLE Florida criminal-history search FDLE is Florida’s central criminal-history repository. Its public criminal-history search currently costs $24; the instant option also lists a $1 card-processing fee.
Decide whether you need local or statewide scope. A Lee County search should not be described as a complete Florida history.
For a local check, contact Sheriff Central Records. Use LCSO Records and provide the requested identifying information.
For Florida history, use FDLE. Open Florida Criminal History Record Check.
Choose the FDLE product that matches the purpose. Instant results are not certified. FDLE also offers certified/non-certified staff searches and ORI-based checks for authorized purposes.
Employment or licensing caution: Do not substitute an ordinary public web search for a fingerprint-based or ORI-based background screening when a law, employer or licensing agency requires a specific process.

Getting Lee County Criminal Court Documents

View online Publicly accessible court records can be searched through Court Records Inquiry without an ordinary viewing fee.
Registered CRI copy Registered users may print available non-certified court documents at home at no charge. Lee Clerk currently lists electronically certified CRI copies at $8 each.
Records Request copy Through the Clerk records-request process, the published court-copy charge is $1 per page plus $2 per document for certification.
Certification format matters: Some government agencies may not accept an electronically certified document. Ask the receiving organization which type of certification it requires before ordering.

Use the official Lee County Clerk Copies of Records guide.

Arrest Search vs Active Warrant Search

Arrest search Shows an arrest or detention that has already resulted in a Lee County jail booking record.
Active warrant A person may have an active warrant without appearing as a current jail inmate. The Sheriff provides a separate warrant-search route and Warrants Unit.
Safety rule: Do not confront a person based on a warrant or wanted-person search. Contact law enforcement with relevant information.

Sealing or Expunging a Lee County Criminal Record

A dismissal does not necessarily mean every arrest-related record disappears from public systems. Florida provides sealing and expungement procedures for eligible cases.

1 Check FDLE eligibility Start with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement application and eligibility process.
2 Receive Certificate of Eligibility If FDLE approves the application, use the certificate for the court filing.
3 File in Lee County court Submit the petition, affidavit and other required documents and pay the applicable filing charge.
4 Schedule and complete hearing After Clerk processing, arrange the hearing with the assigned judge’s Judicial Assistant when required.
Automatic sealing is not the same as formal expungement. Lee Clerk explains that FDLE may direct automatic sealing for certain eligible case outcomes, but some records may still appear in a criminal background check and a person may still need the formal process.
Eligibility is fact-specific. Do not assume that every dismissal, withheld adjudication or old arrest qualifies. Use FDLE’s current eligibility rules or obtain legal advice for your situation.
