Franklin County Inmate and Criminal Case Lookup: Follow the Record From Jail to Court
A Franklin County arrest can create a Sheriff or police report, jail booking, Municipal Court case, bond record and—when a felony is indicted or bound over—a separate Common Pleas case.
This guide brings the important Sheriff, jail, Municipal Court, Common Pleas and Ohio BCI procedures into one page. It explains how to find the person, interpret the result, request records, verify bond, send mail or money, arrange a visit and correct or seal eligible records.

Choose the office that controls the record you need
Use the Franklin County Sheriff inmate search for current custody, charges, case numbers, court dates and the location currently used for visitation.
Franklin County Municipal Court maintains misdemeanor criminal cases, criminal traffic matters and initial felony filings before indictment or bindover.
The Common Pleas General Division maintains felony cases filed by the Franklin County Prosecutor or Ohio Attorney General.
Request the incident or arrest report from the agency whose deputy or officer created it. That may be the Sheriff, Columbus Police or another local agency.
How to search the Franklin County inmate system
The Sheriff’s public tool is a current-custody search. It is not a complete historical list of everyone ever arrested in Franklin County.
What the Franklin County inmate fields mean
| Field | What it identifies | What it does not prove | Next action |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sheriff’s Office ID | The person inside the Franklin County corrections system. | It does not explain the final court outcome. | Use it for mail, commissary and facility questions. |
| Current status | Whether the person is presently listed in custody. | Release does not mean the case was dismissed. | Search each court case after release. |
| Current location | The facility currently used for housing or visitation. | The person will remain there. | Recheck before visiting or sending legal mail. |
| Charge | The allegation presently associated with custody. | It is not a conviction and may change after prosecutor review. | Match it with the Municipal or Common Pleas case. |
| Case number | The court file connected with a charge. | One arrest cannot create only one case. | Search every listed case number separately. |
| Court date | A scheduled event presently received by the jail system. | The hearing cannot be continued or moved. | Confirm through the Clerk’s live docket. |
| Bond information | A release entry associated with a case or charge. | Posting one bond will resolve another case, warrant or holder. | Verify with the correct Clerk before paying. |
| Booking photograph | An image captured during identification processing when publicly displayed. | The person committed the alleged offence. | Use name, age, case number and ID to confirm identity. |
Verify the person before relying on the record
