Henrico County, Virginia · Arrest + Jail + Court Guide
Henrico County Booking, Police Arrest and Criminal Court Record Lookup
Henrico County is unusual because users can search a real-time Police Arrest Reports dataset separately from the Sheriff’s jail inmate locator. A police arrest record, jail booking, magistrate bond decision, General District Court case and Circuit Court felony record can all describe different stages of the same incident.
This guide shows which official system to use first, how to match the correct person, what Henrico’s ICR and arrest numbers mean, where to find an inmate held at Jail West or Jail East, how to connect the arrest to the Virginia court case, and how to request reports, check bond, handle warrants, send mail, fund an account and research record sealing.

An Arrest Report Is Not Proof of Guilt
Presumption of innocence applies.
A Henrico Police arrest report or Sheriff booking entry documents an arrest or detention and the allegations recorded at that stage. The prosecutor or court may later amend, reduce, dismiss or otherwise resolve those allegations. Search the controlling court case before describing an arrest as a conviction.
Arrest ≠ conviction
Police and jail records describe the custody event. The final court disposition answers whether a charge resulted in conviction.
Name ≠ confirmed identity
Compare multiple identifiers before associating a record with someone who has a common or similar name.
Current jail status can change quickly
A person may be released, transferred between Henrico’s two jails or moved into another correctional system after court action.
Employment, housing and screening warning: A public arrest-search page is not a substitute for a legally compliant background-check process. Arrest records may be incomplete, later dismissed, sealed or associated with a different person.

How to Search Henrico County Police Arrest Reports
Henrico County publishes a real-time Police Arrest Reports web service. This is one of the most useful starting points when the arrest was made by Henrico Police because the displayed report can connect the incident, arrested person, charge information and arrest or booking timing.
Start with the name or known incident information.
Avoid adding assumptions. Search the legal name as accurately as possible and broaden it if the exact search fails.
Compare the ICR Report Number.
The ICR number identifies the underlying incident crime report and can connect the arrest to related police records.
Review the arrested person information.
Compare the displayed name, age and other public location information with known identifiers.
Read the listed crime and jurisdiction.
The arrest report can show the police classification, statutory description and jurisdiction associated with the arrest entry.
Compare arrest and booking dates.
The arrest time and later booking time can differ because transport, processing and intake occur after the arrest.
Save the arrest number before requesting more information.
Henrico Police specifically notes that providing the arrest number is helpful when requesting additional information about an arrest.
Search the court case separately.
The Police Arrest Reports system is not the final court disposition. Continue to Henrico General District or Circuit Court.

Export option: The Henrico Arrest Charge Reports interface includes a CSV export function. A downloaded dataset is useful for research, but recheck a live record before relying on an older exported copy.
Coverage limitation: Henrico Police’s Arrest Reports dataset should not be assumed to contain every arrest by every possible agency in or around Henrico. The Sheriff inmate locator and Virginia court records may still be necessary.
Henrico ICR, Arrest Number and Charge Sequence Decoder
Henrico Police explains that one incident can involve more than one arrested person and one arrest can contain multiple charges. Understanding these identifiers prevents records from being mixed together.
ICR Report Number
Identifies the incident crime report. Several arrested people can be connected to one incident.
Arrest Number
Identifies a particular arrested person associated with the incident. Henrico says the number ends with a two-digit sequence identifying the arrestee.
Charge Sequence
One arrest can contain several charges. Henrico’s data structure uses a charge sequence beginning with “C” for individual charge entries.
Henrico’s own example: An arrest number ending in “02” identifies the second suspect arrested for the underlying incident. That person can then have several separately sequenced charges.

How to Locate a Henrico County Jail Inmate
The Sheriff—not Henrico Police—operates the county jail system. Henrico has two major jail facilities, and an inmate’s location can change due to classification, housing, court transportation or operational needs.
Search the exact legal name first.
If no result appears, simplify the search and try spelling variants, former surnames or removal of a suffix.
Verify the inmate identifier.
Save the ID number because Henrico jail mail, funds and other services may require it.
Confirm the current facility.
Determine whether the inmate is at Regional Jail West or Regional Jail East before sending mail, depositing in person or planning facility-specific activity.
Compare the arrest timing.
Match the custody entry with the police arrest report or court case rather than assuming every same-name inmate is the person being researched.
Search the criminal case next.
Jail status answers custody. The Virginia court docket answers what happened to the charges.

Statewide Online Search
Virginia’s court system provides statewide adult criminal and traffic case searching through its online case systems.
Start with Henrico General District Court for many recent arrests.
Search by defendant name, case number or hearing date where supported.
Check Circuit Court for felony prosecution.
A serious charge may begin with a preliminary proceeding in General District Court and later move to Circuit Court.
Match the case number and charge.
Do not rely on name alone. Compare the court, filing date and offense information with the arrest.
Read the case events chronologically.
Look for warrant or summons activity, hearings, bond, amendments, certification, indictment, plea, judgment and disposition.
Review each charge separately.
One arrest can generate several charges and the outcomes can differ.
Obtain an official court record when necessary.

Police Records Management
How to Request a Henrico County Police Arrest or Incident Report
Publicly available Henrico Police records are handled through the Police Records Management Section. Incident records, investigative material and criminal-history information are not all released in the same way, so identify the precise document you need.
Start with the live arrest record if available.
Save the ICR report number and arrest number before submitting a request.
Decide whether you need an incident/offense report or a broader FOIA request.
Henrico provides a General Information Request process for certain routine records and a separate FOIA request form for other records.
Use the Police Records Management Section.
The office is located at the Public Safety Building, 7721 E. Parham Road, and is open Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
Provide narrow identifiers.
Include the full legal name, ICR number, arrest number, date, location and exact records requested.
Request only existing records.
Ask for identified documents instead of asking the agency to create an explanation or legal analysis.
Expect lawful redactions.
Personal, medical, financial, juvenile, investigative or safety-sensitive information may be withheld where Virginia law permits.
Ask for a cost estimate for a large FOIA request.
Virginia FOIA allows reasonable charges tied to the actual cost of accessing, duplicating, supplying or searching for requested records.
Henrico FOIA response framework
Standard County response period
Henrico states that County General Government responds within five working days after receiving a request. The first working day is the day after receipt.
Weekends and holidays excluded
The five-working-day calculation does not include weekends or County holidays.
Police FOIA routing
Police FOIA requests received by Division personnel are routed to the Police Division FOIA Team for processing.
Advance estimate
A requester can ask to receive an estimate of charges before significant records work begins.

Important Henrico-specific limitation
Henrico Police “Record of Arrest” Is Not a Full Virginia Background Check
Henrico Police offers a local criminal background check described as a Record of Arrest, but the County’s own instructions make clear that this is a narrow local transcript rather than a complete statewide history.
The subject must appear in person
The person whose record is being checked must go to the Public Safety Building to initiate the local criminal-background check.
Two forms of identification
The subject must present two accepted forms of identification, including at least one photo ID.
Henrico-only coverage
The local transcript covers qualifying offenses in Henrico County rather than a statewide Virginia search.
Fingerprinted offenses are not what this local transcript is designed to show
Henrico states that the transcript shows offenses for which the subject was not fingerprinted.
No traffic offenses
Henrico directs users seeking traffic-offense transcripts to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.
No juvenile offenses
Juvenile information is not included in the local Police Record of Arrest transcript.
Need broader criminal history? Use the Virginia State Police criminal-history process rather than treating the Henrico Police local transcript as a complete Virginia record.
Henrico has a specific warrant-letter process
Henrico County Warrant Letters and Warrant Scam Protection
Henrico Police and Sheriff deputies do not call asking you to pay money to resolve an arrest warrant.
Henrico’s official warrant-letter instructions state that officers and deputies will not contact a person by telephone regarding a warrant for arrest and will not request payment in person to make the warrant disappear. Court fines and costs are handled through the courts.
Henrico Police Records Management has worked with the Sheriff’s Warrant Services Unit to mail letters in certain misdemeanor cases after a magistrate issues an arrest warrant.
Read the mailed letter carefully.
A legitimate Henrico warrant letter can identify the defendant, address and offense and ask the defendant to accept service of the warrant.
Do not pay an unsolicited caller.
A demand for gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire payment or personal electronic payment to cancel a warrant is a major warning sign.
Verify the contact independently.
Use the official Henrico website or published Sheriff number rather than calling a number supplied in a suspicious message.
Contact Warrant Services for service arrangements when appropriate.
Henrico publishes
804-501-4797, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., for arranging service of a qualifying warrant.
Use the Magistrate for bond-related information.
The Office of the Magistrate determines applicable bond information after an arrest.
Use the court docket to follow the case.
A served warrant can generate a court case and later docket entries that should be verified separately.
Why Police may not confirm another person’s warrant by phone: Henrico states that its Police Records Management Section cannot answer telephone questions about a wanted person because of Virginia criminal-record dissemination law.
Important Virginia defense distinction
Court-Appointed Counsel in Henrico County
Do not assume the nearby Richmond Public Defender serves Henrico criminal cases. As of the current Virginia Code, Henrico County is not one of the jurisdictions specifically listed as having a public defender office.
Henrico is not the Richmond public-defender jurisdiction
The Richmond Public Defender serves the City of Richmond. Geographic proximity does not make it the automatic defense office for a Henrico case.
The court determines indigency and appointment
A defendant who cannot afford counsel and qualifies under Virginia law should follow the instructions provided by the court concerning appointed representation.
Virginia maintains certified court-appointed counsel
The Virginia Indigent Defense Commission maintains a counsel lookup for attorneys certified to accept qualifying court-appointed matters.
Do not contact the VIDC administrative office expecting it to be a Henrico Public Defender office. The Commission’s administrative headquarters is physically located in Henrico, but it is an administrative office and does not by itself mean it represents Henrico defendants.
Video visitation through GettingOut
Henrico Jail West and Jail East Video Visitation
The Sheriff offers virtual visitation for both Jail West and Jail East. Friends and family use the GettingOut platform and related mobile application.
Create a GettingOut account
The visitor needs a functioning email address and telephone number and must complete the platform’s verification process.
Become a verified contact
After verification, the friend or family member can become a Telmate Verified Contact for the inmate.
Download the visit app
The Sheriff directs visitors to the GTL/GettingOut mobile visitation application for Visit Now functionality.
Visit Now can avoid scheduling
The feature can allow an immediate remote visit when available and permitted.
Outgoing inmate-initiated visits have a device limitation
The Sheriff states that inmate-initiated outgoing Visit Now sessions currently require the visitor’s smartphone.
Operational restrictions still apply
Housing changes, restrictions or late arrival for a scheduled session can affect visitation.
Technical support: The Sheriff currently lists GTL/GettingOut visitation technical support at
866-516-0115.

Virginia record relief changed significantly
Henrico County Expungement and Criminal-Record Sealing in 2026
Virginia now has both traditional expungement procedures and newer criminal-record sealing procedures. Eligibility is highly case-specific, so the first step is to identify the exact Henrico court case and final disposition.
DISPOSITION
ELIGIBILITY
PETITION
COURT ORDER
Locate every Henrico case first.
Use the General District and Circuit Court systems to identify the exact charge, court and disposition.
Determine whether the issue is expungement or sealing.
These are different legal processes with different eligibility requirements.
Use the current Virginia court forms.
The Virginia Judicial System now publishes criminal-sealing petition and motion forms, including forms CC-1201, CC-1203 and related addenda.
Read the form instructions before filing.
Eligibility can depend on the offense, outcome, criminal history, waiting requirements and other statutory factors.
File in the proper court.
Do not assume that a case originating in General District Court means every form is filed there; sealing forms and statutes can route matters differently.
Keep the final signed order.
An order is important when verifying that court, police or state criminal-history systems have implemented granted relief.
Do not promise eligibility from an arrest result: The title of the original charge, dismissal status or age of the record alone is not enough to determine whether sealing or expungement is available.

Virginia and West Virginia Arrest Searches Work Very Differently
Henrico users have access to a county Police arrest dataset, two Sheriff jail facilities and Virginia’s General District/Circuit Court structure. Neighboring West Virginia instead relies heavily on a regional-jail system and separate magistrate and circuit-court searches.

Henrico County VA Arrest Records Search FAQs
1. How do I search Henrico County VA arrest records online?
Start with Henrico Police’s real-time Arrest Reports service when the arrest was made by Henrico Police. Save the ICR report number, arrest number, charges, arrest date and booking date. Then use the Henrico Sheriff inmate locator for current custody and Virginia court records for the legal case and final disposition.
2. How do I find someone currently in the Henrico County jail?
Use the Henrico Sheriff’s inmate locator and verify the inmate ID and current facility. Henrico operates Regional Jail West at 4317 East Parham Road and Regional Jail East at 17320 New Kent Highway. Jail West information is 804-501-4581 and Jail East weekday information is 804-652-1211.
3. What is an ICR number on a Henrico arrest report?
The ICR Report Number identifies the underlying Henrico Police incident crime report. One incident can involve more than one arrested person, so Henrico also uses separate arrest numbers and charge sequences. Save the ICR and arrest number when requesting additional police information.
4. How can I tell whether a Henrico arrest resulted in a conviction?
Do not rely on the arrest or booking charge. Search Henrico General District Court and, for felony prosecution or qualifying appeals, Henrico Circuit Court. Review the final court disposition for dismissal, plea, judgment, acquittal, conviction or another resolution.
5. How do I obtain a Henrico County police arrest or incident report?
Contact Henrico Police Records Management at 804-501-4809 or use the County’s Police Reports, Records and FOIA instructions. Have the full legal name, ICR number, arrest number, incident date, location and exact records requested ready. Some information can be redacted or withheld under Virginia law.
6. Is the Henrico Police Record of Arrest a full Virginia background check?
No. Henrico Police describes its local Record of Arrest as a limited Henrico County transcript. The subject must appear in person with two accepted forms of ID, and the transcript does not include traffic or juvenile offenses. For a broader formal Virginia criminal history, use the Virginia State Police SP-167 process.
7. How do I check bond information after a Henrico arrest?
Confirm the inmate and every charge, then review the applicable court or magistrate information. The Henrico Office of the Magistrate is at 4313 East Parham Road, telephone 804-501-5285, and operates 24 hours a day. Another hold or charge may affect release even when bond has been granted.
8. Does Henrico County call people and demand money for arrest warrants?
No. Henrico’s official warrant-letter guidance says Police officers and Sheriff deputies do not call a person about an arrest warrant and do not request payment to resolve the warrant. Certain misdemeanor warrant notices may instead be mailed. Verify any warrant-related contact independently through official Henrico numbers.
9. How do I send mail or money to a Henrico County inmate?
First confirm whether the inmate is at Jail West or Jail East because the mailing addresses differ. Henrico scans incoming mail and restricts certain items. Inmate funds can be deposited through Access Corrections, by telephone, app, kiosk or qualifying mail/in-person methods under current Sheriff instructions.
10. Can a Henrico County arrest record be expunged or sealed in Virginia?
Possibly, but eligibility depends on the exact charge, court disposition, criminal history and applicable Virginia law. Virginia now provides criminal-record sealing petition forms in addition to traditional expungement procedures. Find the final Henrico court disposition first and review the current Virginia Judicial System forms and instructions before filing.
