How to search Idaho county jail and booking records

Idaho does not operate one statewide public roster covering every county jail. The correct search is based on where the person was booked—not necessarily where the person lives or where the alleged offence occurred.

Identify the arresting agency Determine whether the arrest was made by a county sheriff, city police department, Idaho State Police, tribal authority or another agency.
Identify the booking county A city police department generally uses the jail serving that jurisdiction, but transfers and regional detention arrangements can place a person elsewhere.
Search the official county roster Begin with the legal last name. Add the first name only when necessary.
Open every plausible record Compare age or birth year, arrest date, booking ID, arresting agency and charges.
Record every charge and hold One custody event can include county charges, municipal warrants, probation violations and holds from another jurisdiction.
Save the court or agency case number Use that number to connect the booking with the Idaho iCourt case or arresting-agency report.
Call when the record is time-sensitive Roster update schedules vary from hourly to daily. Only the jail can confirm immediate release, transfer or housing status.

No Idaho arrest or inmate result found? Check these causes

The arrest happened recently Intake, fingerprinting, medical screening and data entry may not be complete.

The jail roster usually provides only booking information. The detailed incident narrative remains with the sheriff, police department or Idaho State Police unit that created the report.

A resident request is generally granted or denied within three working days.

Extended response

When more time is required, the agency may provide notice and extend the response to ten working days.

Residency declaration

Current state forms may require the requester to declare Idaho residency and provide contact information.

Nonresident request

Current Idaho agency guidance reflects longer statutory periods for nonresident requests: generally up to 21 calendar days for the initial response and up to 35 calendar days when an extension is properly used.

Idaho resident baseline: State law generally prevents charging for the first two hours of labour or the first 100 pages, subject to specialised statutory fees and the agency’s lawful fee schedule.
Agency fees differ: The first-100-page and two-hour thresholds do not mean every arrest report is free. Photographs, video, certified records, crash-report systems and services governed by another fee statute may carry separate charges.

The Idaho State Police Bureau of Criminal Identification maintains the Idaho Central Repository of Criminal History Records. The database is built from fingerprint arrest records reported by Idaho criminal-justice agencies.

A BCI “no record” response is not a nationwide clearance. It means the requested search did not find releasable information in the Idaho repository under the submitted identity data.

How long records remain

Idaho State Police states that criminal-history information remains indefinitely unless qualifying legal action results in removal. A dismissed charge continues to appear with the dismissal disposition until an approved expungement removes it.

The iCourt Portal is the official public search tool for Idaho court cases, hearing calendars and eligible electronic payments. It is not a substitute for a fingerprint criminal-history check.

Search by complete case or record number Enter the full number when it appears on a citation, booking result, summons or court notice.
Search by party name when the number fails Enter the last name and first name, then refine the results by county or case type.
Try a wildcard or broader spelling Use the portal’s Smart Search tools when a suffix, compound name or spelling variation may be involved.
Confirm the county and criminal case type Avoid combining a civil case or another person’s criminal case with the arrest being researched.

Why an Idaho criminal case or document may not appear online

Requesting court documents

General case information is searched through iCourt. Copies of individual case documents should be requested from the clerk in the county where the case was filed.

Ordinary response

The court custodian generally has three working days to provide, deny or refer the request to a custodian judge.

Additional time

If more time is needed, the requester should be notified and the response may extend to ten working days.

Multiple cases: Individual documents from several known cases should still go to the relevant county clerks. A request that requires the Judicial Branch to compile new data across the system may require the compiled-data request process.
Warrant safety

How to check an Idaho warrant without relying on a private website

Idaho does not provide the public with one unrestricted statewide name-search list for every active warrant. Warrant access depends on the issuing court, county sheriff, status of the warrant and court-access rules.

Identify the issuing county or court Use the citation, booking result, court notice or known case location.
Search the iCourt case Public users can search unsealed warrants and no-contact orders by record number when available.
Check the county sheriff wanted page Some counties publish felony, misdemeanour or most-wanted reports; others do not release warrant information to the general public.
Record the exact case and warrant information Save the issuing court, case number, name, birth information and displayed charge.
Confirm before taking action A warrant may have been recalled, served or updated after the online information was generated.
Do not confront or attempt to arrest anyone. Provide possible warrant information to law enforcement. A person checking their own status should contact the issuing court or a qualified Idaho attorney for safe, case-specific instructions.
ILETS is not a public search: Idaho’s law-enforcement network connects authorised criminal-justice agencies with state and NCIC wanted-person files. Public users cannot access ILETS directly.
State prison and supervision

When to use the Idaho Department of Correction search

IDOC’s Resident/Client Search covers people currently incarcerated under state jurisdiction, on probation, on parole or otherwise under IDOC supervision. It is not a live county-jail booking search.

Search by last name or IDOC number A partial last name must contain at least two characters. A partial IDOC number must contain at least the first three digits.
Add the first name when needed Use it to narrow common surnames.
Compare birth year and middle name Do not rely only on a matching first and last name.
Read the status carefully Results may show In Custody, In Community, Active Bench Warrant or a discharged status.
Check the listed felony information For an active resident or client, the system can show felonies connected with current IDOC jurisdiction.

IDOC status meanings

BCI challenge process

Idaho State Police states that every arrest event in the repository is supported by fingerprints. A person disputing a BCI report should request a certified fingerprint-based copy of their own record.

Idaho BCI expungement eligibility and application documents

Idaho Code section 67-3004(10) provides a limited process for removing the fingerprint and criminal-history record associated with a qualifying arrest or criminal summons.

Court record shielding

Idaho Clean Slate shielding is different from BCI expungement

The Idaho Clean Slate Act allows an eligible person to ask the court to shield qualifying criminal case records from public disclosure. Shielding does not destroy the records; authorised courts, law enforcement and prosecutors can retain access.
