Hillsborough County, Florida · Arrest, booking, jail and court-action guide
HCSO Jail Lookup: Find the Booking, Facility, Bond and Final Court Status
Hillsborough County arrest information is split across several systems. HCSO maintains the county booking and custody record, the arresting agency maintains its incident report, and the Hillsborough County Clerk maintains the filed criminal case and final disposition.
This guide brings the important HCSO rules into one page, including jail-search steps, booking-field explanations, facility information, cash-bond requirements, current mail instructions, remote visitation, calls, commissary deposits, public-record requests and arrest-record correction.
HCSO arrest data is not a criminal conviction record. The Sheriff states that website arrest information reflects the circumstances and information available at the time of arrest. It does not establish guilt, innocence, acquittal, dismissal or the prosecutor’s final charging decision.

What information are you actually trying to find?
1

Use HCSO Arrest Inquiry to find the booking, charges, bond entries, facility information and available booking photograph.
2
Arrest or incident report
Request the report from the law-enforcement agency that made the arrest, such as HCSO, Tampa Police, Plant City Police or Temple Terrace Police.

Official jail-search workflow
How to search HCSO arrest records without missing the booking
Open the official HCSO Arrest Inquiry
Use the Sheriff’s live “Who’s in Jail” system rather than a mugshot reposting or people-search website.
Start with the last name
Use the legal surname without adding too many filters during the first search. One incorrect middle name, date or suffix can hide a valid record.
Add the first name gradually
Add the first name only when the surname returns too many possible matches.
Try alternate name forms
Test a maiden name, former surname, hyphenated version, suffix, abbreviated first name or known alias.
Open each plausible match
Compare the full name, date of birth, booking date, booking number and arresting agency.
Read every charge separately
One booking can contain several charge sequences, case numbers, bonds or outside holds.
Save the identifiers
Record the booking number, arrest date, arresting agency, charge number and every court case number.
Confirm before paying or traveling
Call
813-247-8300 when the booking is recent, the facility is unclear or release appears pending.

Full first and last name match
Middle name, suffix or alias is consistent

Booking date matches the known arrest
Arresting agency matches the event location
Booking or case number matches another official document
Same name but different birth date
Treat the records as different people unless HCSO confirms a data error.
Similar photo but different booking number
The booking identifier is more reliable than visual resemblance.
Different middle name
Check known aliases, former names and the court case number.
Old or unfamiliar address
Addresses may be outdated, incomplete or protected. Do not use one as the only match.
Troubleshooting
No HCSO inmate result found? Follow this order
Arrested within the last few hours
The person may still be completing identification, medical screening, property inventory or intake.
Name entered differently
Search the surname alone and try aliases, former surnames, suffixes and alternate spellings.
Released before you searched
Search the court case and request the arrest report rather than relying only on the live custody list.
Not physically booked
A citation, notice to appear, hospitalization or juvenile process may create a police or court record without an adult jail booking.
Held outside Hillsborough County
Search the county where the arrest occurred rather than the person’s home address.
Transferred to another agency
The person may be in another county, Florida Department of Corrections or federal custody.
No court case appears yet
The State Attorney may still be reviewing the arrest, or the case may not yet be visible electronically.
Record legally restricted
Juvenile, sealed, expunged, confidential and victim-protected records may not appear publicly.
Useful call script
“I am trying to confirm whether [full legal name], date of birth [date], is currently in Hillsborough County custody. The arrest may have occurred on [date] through [agency]. I have [booking or case number]. Can you confirm the current facility or whether the person was released or transferred?”

After an arrest
What happens during Hillsborough County booking?
Arrival at the receiving facility
Orient Road Jail is HCSO’s primary receiving and booking facility for arrests made by numerous county and municipal agencies.
Identity and record creation
Booking personnel confirm identity, create the booking record and enter the charges, warrants or holds received from the arresting agency.
Property and funds inventory
Personal property and money are recorded. Money received during intake is placed in the inmate account.
Health and safety screening
Medical, mental-health, safety and custody information can affect housing and treatment.
Classification and housing
HCSO assigns the inmate to an appropriate facility and housing area. The displayed location can later change.
Calls and release arrangements
HCSO states that telephone calls are free in Central Booking so new inmates can contact family, friends or arrange bail.
First appearance and bond review
A judge may review probable cause, counsel, bond, release conditions and scheduling.
Release, detention or transfer
The inmate may post bond, receive another release order, remain on a hold or transfer to another agency.
Bond and release

Payment location
Orient Road Jail
1201 Orient Road
Tampa, FL 33619
Amount required
Cash bonds and purge payments must be paid in the exact amount.
Accepted methods
Cash or money order.
Not accepted
Credit and debit cards are not accepted for these payments.
Confirm every charge and hold
A payable bond on one charge does not resolve another no-bond charge, warrant, probation matter or outside hold.
Call Inmate Records
Contact
813-247-8400 before traveling to confirm the required amount and whether cash bail will allow release.
Prepare the inmate’s identifying information
HCSO requires the inmate’s correctly spelled name and date of birth.
Bring valid identification
The person posting bail should carry valid government-issued identification.
Pay only the exact amount
Do not assume staff can accept an overpayment or provide change for a cash bond or purge.
Keep the receipt
Save the booking number, case number, amount, payment time and depositor information.
Wait for confirmed physical release
Payment does not mean the person immediately exits. Property return, paperwork and other holds can delay release.
Cash-bond refund warning: HCSO transfers Hillsborough County cash-bond money to the Clerk. After disposition, the Clerk may apply the bond to unpaid prosecution costs, representation costs, court fees, costs or criminal penalties involving the defendant before returning any balance to the depositor.
Surety bonds: HCSO accepts surety bonds only from registered bail-bond agents. The Sheriff does not require families to use a specific private bondsman.
Final disposition
How to check what happened after the HCSO arrest
HCSO specifically directs users to the Clerk for the final disposition because the arrest website does not reflect the State Attorney’s final charging decision or the result of a criminal trial.
Open Hillsborough HOVER
The system provides public access to many court indexes, dockets and non-confidential document images.
Search by case number first
A uniform case number is more accurate than a name and reduces same-name errors.
Search every case listed in the booking
Multiple charges can produce more than one felony, misdemeanor, traffic or violation case.
Locate the formal charging document
Look for the information, complaint or amended information to see what the prosecutor actually filed.
Read the docket by date
Review hearings, motions, warrants, continuances, plea entries, orders, judgments and sentencing.
Find the final disposition document
Do not rely only on a status such as “closed.” Locate the dismissal, nolle prosequi, verdict, judgment or sentencing document.
Print or order the correct copy
Non-certified documents available in HOVER can generally be viewed and printed without charge. Obtain certification when formal proof is required.

Record the warrant details
Save the warrant number, case number, charge, issuing court and displayed status.
Search the court docket
Look for warrant issuance, recall, service or failure-to-appear entries.

An online result can lag behind service, recall, correction or court action.
Use a safe resolution path
A person researching their own warrant should contact an attorney, the issuing court or HCSO for case-specific instructions.
Do not confront or detain anyone. Similar names and delayed updates can create serious risks. Give possible warrant information to law enforcement.

Florida record relief
How an HCSO arrest may be sealed or expunged
Dismissal does not automatically erase the arrest. Florida eligibility depends on the charge, disposition, criminal history, prior sealing or expungement and other statutory conditions.
Collect the HCSO and court records
Save the arrest report, booking identifiers, case number and certified disposition before access becomes restricted.
Review FDLE eligibility
Determine whether the case may qualify for court-ordered sealing, expungement or another Florida process.
Prepare the Certificate of Eligibility application
Complete the required form, fingerprint card, certified disposition, prosecutor section where required and fee.
Receive the FDLE decision
FDLE issues or denies a certificate based on statutory eligibility. The certificate does not remove any record.
File in the proper Hillsborough County court
Submit the petition, certificate, affidavit and proposed order required for the requested relief.
Obtain a judicial order
The judge decides whether to grant sealing or expungement.
Confirm agency processing
After the order is entered, confirm that the Clerk, HCSO, arresting agency and FDLE processed the relief required by law.

Frequently asked questions
HCSO arrest-record and jail-lookup questions
How do I search HCSO arrest records?
Use HCSO Arrest Inquiry. Search the surname first, then verify the birth date, booking date, booking number and arresting agency before relying on a result.
Does HCSO show the final criminal case outcome?
No. HCSO states that the arrest record does not show the prosecutor’s final charging decision or the outcome of the criminal case. Search the Hillsborough Clerk HOVER docket.
What are the two Hillsborough County jail addresses?
Orient Road Jail is at 1201 Orient Road, Tampa, FL 33619. Falkenburg Road Jail is at 520 N. Falkenburg Road, Tampa, FL 33619.
How do I post an HCSO cash bond?
Bring the exact amount, valid identification and the inmate’s correctly spelled name and birth date to Orient Road Jail. Cash and money orders are accepted; credit and debit cards are not.
Can a Hillsborough County inmate receive incoming phone calls?
No. HCSO inmate calls are outgoing. Central Booking calls are free, and general housing telephone service is typically available from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Are HCSO video visits in person?
Regular video visitation is remote. HCSO closed its public on-site Visitation Center on October 28, 2025. Qualified professional visits remain available in person under separate rules.
What is the Hillsborough County inmate mail address?
Address personal mail to the inmate’s name and booking number, care of Mail Processing Center, P.O. Box 9115, Seminole, FL 33775-9115.

Use the HCSO identity-theft correction process through the Identification Section. HCSO fingerprints the claimant to verify that the arrest belongs to another person.
Can an HCSO arrest be removed after dismissal?
A dismissal does not automatically remove the arrest record. An eligible person generally must complete the FDLE Certificate of Eligibility process and obtain a Hillsborough County court order for sealing or expungement.
