Johnson County’s live search requires the inmate’s first and last name. Unlike systems that accept a booking number on the first screen, this search is primarily name-driven.

District Court bond types

Cash-surety bond

May be satisfied through exact cash, an authorised Government Payment credit-card bond or an approved surety company, depending on the court order.

Personal recognisance

Release is based on the court’s order and conditions rather than payment of the entire bond amount.

ORCD

An own-recognisance cash-deposit bond requires 10% of the total bond in cash. The receipt must be placed in the name of the person bonding.

Cash means exact cash. Johnson County states that cashier’s cheques and money orders are not accepted for District Court cash bonds.

Before posting a District Court bond

List every case and hold A single booking can contain several cases with different bond conditions.
Confirm the exact bond type Do not assume that a bond labelled cash-surety can be paid by any payment method.
Ask whether another jurisdiction has a hold A city warrant, another county, probation matter or federal hold may prevent release.
Use the required payment method Bring exact cash for a cash bond, use the approved card-bond provider, or select a company from the court-approved surety list.
Save the receipt in the correct name This is especially important for an ORCD bond.
Wait for confirmed physical release Johnson County warns that the bond and release process may take several hours.

Municipal cash-bond exception

Johnson County detention staff post municipal cash bonds for most Johnson County cities. They do not accept the municipal cash bond for the following three cities:

Post the cash bond with Lenexa and take the receipt back to the detention facility.

Olathe

Post the cash bond with Olathe Municipal Court or the city’s authorised process and return with the receipt.

Overland Park

The Sheriff’s Warrant Unit locates people wanted by Johnson County District Court orders, including felony, misdemeanour and civil arrest warrants. It also works on outside-agency warrants and interstate extradition.

Why does the Sheriff case number not work in the Kansas court portal?

The Sheriff retains a local operational number format. Historical court cases use YYCR12345, and new statewide cases use JO-YYYY-CR-123456. Search by the person’s name when conversion does not work.

How do I request the Sheriff arrest report?

Provide the report number, date, time, location and involved names to the Central Records Division by email, mail or in person. Narrow requests are usually easier and less expensive to process.

What are the Sheriff report-copy charges?

The first five printed pages have no copy charge. Additional pages are $0.35 each. Printed photographs are $5.50, and video copied to a DVD or flash drive is $22 per type. Staff time may be additional.
